NEC Endorses Corporate Diversity Legislation
Under the leadership of the NEC Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee, the Council endorsed the "Improving Corporate Governance Through Diversity Act of 2021" several weeks ago. The Council wrote toe each member of the New England Congressional delegation on April 19 to express our support for the legislation, and to encourage them to support it as well. The bill would require public companies to disclose the gender, race, ethnicity and veteran status of their board directors, nominees, and senior executive officers to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) annually.

On April 1, 2021, the Council wrote to each member of the New England Congressional delegation urging them to support the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act of 2021. This bipartisan, bicameral bill would create protections for depository and insurance institutions that provide financial related services to legal cannabis-related businesses and their service providers. Just a few weeks later, on April 19, the bill passed the House of Representatives.
