Eating too much salt may cause weight gain because it changes how your body makes and metabolizes fat. A high-salt diet can boost the production of insulin which is the hormone that tells your body to store fat. So, the more salt, the more insulin, the more fat. I think it’s the only Zero calorie food that can make you fat!
It’s also not the stuff you shake on at the table that should worry you. It’s processed and packaged foods that food manufacturers load up with salt for flavor, color, texture, and to prevent spoilage. 80% of the sodium in our diets are in crackers, cookies, cereals, soups, pasta sauces, etc., and that is not counting fast food or restaurant meals!
How much do we need a day? Only 2/3 teaspoon. Pretty pitiful, isn’t it. So stop that water retention, get rid of that bloating and look and feel better by cutting back on salt. Bye Bye yummy potato chips and dip!
