Wednesday Night Bible Study
tonight at 6:30 on Zoom
Remember Your Baptism. . .
On Wednesday, Jan 13, our Wednesday night Prayer and Bible Study time (on Zoom) will focus on the theme of baptism. Baptism marks a new beginning, a new commitment to follow Jesus. As we begin this new year, may we spend some time reflecting on how we will follow Jesus in this new year.

We will begin with sharing prayer concerns and celebrations as we typically do on Wednesday nights. Then, participants will be invited to share their own baptism story. When and where were you baptized? What do you remember about the experience? How did you decide to be baptized? Hearing one another’s baptism stories will be a meaningful way to share our faith journeys with one another. If you have a photo from your baptism, please bring it to share.

The Worship of God
January 17, 2021
Second Sunday after Epiphany

“Surprises of God”

Rev. Jennifer McClung Rygg
Pastor
Congratulations to Rev. Cara Morgan, Volunteer Minister to Young Adults, who has been called to the position of Minister to Children and Families at First Baptist Church Anderson! We are very excited about this wonderful new opportunity for Cara and wish her many blessings on this new venture. We will GREATLY miss her at FBCP. We will celebrate Cara's faithful service to FBCP during online worship on Jan 17 before she begins her new position on January 19, 2021. Congratulations, Cara!

Look for an email Sunday morning with the link to the YouTube video.
Due to the increase in COVID cases in our area (and expected continued increases following the holidays), in-person worship will be suspended January 17, 24, and 31. Church council will meet again the last week of January to re-evaluate. For those 3 weeks, we will have online worship in a format similar to what we had from March through August.

While our precautions for in-person worship seem to be effective and we have no known instances of COVID transmission at church, we do have increasing numbers of COVID cases among our church family and in our community. Earlier this week, Anderson County declared a state of emergency. Anderson County hospitals are at 90% capacity. The numbers are alarming (see data here). Anything we can do to help reduce the spread has the potential to save lives. Safety is the priority; God is with us and can be worshiped from wherever we are.

Thank you for your patience, for your diligence in following precautions, and for your faithfulness to our church in these challenging times. It has indeed been a gift to be able to gather in person for worship for these past few months, and hopefully, we will be able to do so again soon.

A couple of other schedule notes:

  • The Quarterly Church Conference scheduled for Wednesday, Jan 20 has been moved to one week later and will now take place on Wednesday, Jan 27 at 6:30 pm on Zoom.
  • Wednesday night Bible Study will continue on Zoom at 6:30 pm each week (with the exception of Jan 27, due to the church conference).
Worship Volunteers
Worship for Jan 17, 24, and 31 will be pre-recorded and presented on YouTube. We will still need worship volunteers for reading Scripture and praying the Offertory Prayer. This would require you to record a video of yourself and then upload it to the church (it’s not hard -- we’ll tell you how to do it and provide “tech support” if you need it)!

If you would like to volunteer as a Scripture reader or praying the Offertory Prayer, please use the link below or email office@fbcpendleton.org or call the office at 864-646-3913.
