Virtual Visitor Experience (VVE) and Inpatient Telehealth
Help patients stay connected!!
|
|
In the wake of the new visitor restrictions coming on 1/8/21, this is a reminder that we are able to offer our patients to stay connected with their families and keep their loved ones in touch with the care team with the Virtual Visitor Experience (VVE) and Inpatient Telehealth.
Utilizing the Inpatient Video Navigator (IVN) is key to this workflow.
Providing patients and families extra assistance with technology, as well as a consistent touch point for families to reach out to, has shown it impacts them positively, as evidenced by the overwhelming positive feedback that has been received since this program started.
The Inpatient Video Navigator (IVN) is a UCSF staff member or qualified volunteer who provides direct assistance in setting up the Zoom conference calls for patients and their friends/family members.
-
Simply search Orders for “video” or “IVN”, sign (w/defaulted order mode)
- This triggers the IVN and Zoom set up
-
Zoom information placed in the chart by the IVN lasts for the entire hospital encounter
Then when it is time to meet:
- Find an iPad on your unit
- Place at the patient’s bedside
- Connect using the Zoom info provided 😊
For any questions, please feel free to contact me, Amy Kuwata, in Voalte, or Linda Branagan, Director of Telehealth.

First, Happy New Year! I want to wish all of you a successful and great new year as we try to leave the pandemic behind and move into what some people are calling the “next normal”. As we all get through this pandemic together and continuing to see a climb of numbers of COVID + patients being admitted into our system it is great that the vaccination is here and many of you have gotten vaccinated. When I looked at the vaccination dashboard https://covidvaccinedash.ucsf.edu I noted that as of 01/07/2021 morning we had over 11,000 staff and faculty vaccinated! Our Vaccination Team has done an amazing job of standing this process up for us and getting many of you vaccinated to date. All of our staff and faculty in groups 1A – a and 1A – b have been invited to get your vaccine. The majority of you have gotten it and signed up or declined the vaccine. We know that there are some, for whatever reason, have not gotten the invite, don’t have an active MyChart account or somehow just didn’t get to the invite quickly enough and it fell off your MyChart account. Whatever the reason, we are here to make sure you get vaccinated as quickly as possible.
My ask of you is to let your [Manager/]Director know if you have not received your invite as of yet so they can check on your status. If you don’t have an active MyChart account, please create one and look for your invite and get scheduled to get your vaccine as soon as possible and finally if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask your [Manager/] Director, [your Associate Chief] or me. We are here to support you.
Thank you for all you do every day in taking care of our patients!! Your courage and dedication to our profession is amazing! Thank you!!
Please let me know if there is anything we can do for you.

Rachel Goudey , Certified Yoga Therapist and Psychologist
Meets virtually 7-8pm Mondays (Rachel): Jan 11, 18, 25 & Feb 1
Wednesdays (PJ): Jan 13, 20, 27 and Feb 3
We see you, our friends and family working in healthcare during the time of Covid, and we deeply appreciate you. We also see the additional layers of complexity and stress, and how for many of you this is bringing anxiety and depression into your lives. Repeated immersion in stressful environments and
experiencing the trauma of your patients is in itself traumatizing, and can lead to exhaustion, compassion fatigue and burnout.
As healthcare professionals ourselves, we know that those who work in service to others have a harder time remembering to tend to and take care of themselves, but we all know “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” We offer this four-week Holistic Self-Care Course to help you fill your cup. During this online
journey we will guide the exploration of a variety of deeply healing self-care and relaxation techniques drawing on both new and ancient modalities in a safe, supportive group setting with your peers.
You’ll learn how to build resilience in the nervous system -balancing physical, mental & emotional states
through:
● Mindfulness practices
● Self-massage techniques
● Breathing practices
● Embodied movement and awareness.
● Reflection and social engagement with peers
It is astonishing what a difference just a few minutes of self-care and mindful connection can bring to your quality of life. No matter your role or type of healthcare you work in this workshop is for you. We
have heard you describe the experience of “running on empty” and want you to know: this is your Personal Wellness Charging Station!
Attend one or both days for the same price. Investment: $100.

Hearing Difficulty in the COVID-19 Era – Survey (UCSF)
|
|
Dear Colleagues:
We are concerned about hearing and communication difficulties among patients during this time of the coronavirus pandemic and increased use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
We created a survey to begin to understand the issues that you are facing. With this information, we intend to advocate for better policies and resources to overcome barriers and obstacles for those with hearing difficulty in healthcare settings.
We invite you to take our Qualtrics® survey which will take about 8-10 minutes to complete. You will also help our geriatrics fellow advance in research!

ALL APP STUDENTS AT UCSF HEALTH FACILITIES
|
All preceptors are required to ensure all students from ALL educational institutions have been vetted by UCSF prior to any educational activities, including employees. UCSF has many parts of the organization involved in this process. Their school needs an affiliation agreement with UCSF, they need health screening to be completed, they require online training for Health and Safety and APEX, and sign a HIPPA form.
