Women Writing for (a) Change - Cincinnati - September 2021 Newsletter
Roots and Wings: Celebrating 30 Years of Women Writing for (a) Change
Now both virtual and in-person!
You are invited! Now a hybrid event.
You may register either to attend in-person, or to attend a portion of the event virtually, on Zoom.

Join us on September 24th to celebrate this community that has inspired, enriched and transformed so many of our lives since 1991.
Let's honor the journey of these writing circles through the years, including youth programs and outreach into the broader community.

In addition to gathering and catching up, see photos of the early years of WWf(a)C. From 8-8:30pm ET hear brief words from those involved in all facets of WWf(a)C through three decades, and looking forward to the future.

FOR VIRTUAL ATTENDEES: You may log into Zoom at 7:45 pm ET to view the photo slide show, followed at 8:00 pm ET by the program of speakers.

Whether you are new to these writing circles or participated years ago, come find your friends--past and present! There is no charge to attend this celebration.
Important Update for Fall 2021 Classes - Letter from Lisa Rocklin, Executive Director WWf(a)C
After consulting with the In-Person Core Class facilitators, as well as requesting feedback from all registered (as of Aug 16) In-Person Core Class writers, I have made the decision to revert the three In-Person Core Class circles back to Virtual for Fall 2021. This decision also applies to the three
In-Person Core Class Samplers. We launched the Fall Core Classes seven weeks ago, on July 1. As we have all experienced many times in the past 16 months, COVID developments have changed the parameters once again.

Wine, Words & You - A Virtual Event

30 Years of Women Writing for (a) Change. Support the Journey at this popular yearly event!
Wine, Words & You has something for everyone! In addition to readers from the WWf(a)C community, there are brief presentations on the selected event wines, social and game breakout times and silent auction shopping!

The online Silent Auction will be held again on the Accelevents platform and is open to the public. The auction runs for over a week, and opens on October 15th at 4pm ET.

Event ticket options include packages for wine and snack pick up prior to the event. Patron and sponsorship support include wine and snack delivery in the Greater Cincinnati region.
Eight-Week Virtual Class
Offers Sliding Scale Tuition

Sliding scale is a pricing model tool that we are exploring for this offering in an attempt to create a more equitable circle that values the experiences of those in all current socio-economic situations, while simultaneously valuing the work of the facilitators and organizational costs to run the program.
We do not want cost to be the barrier between anyone and this circle.

And, we've got a FREE Virtual Sampler September 21 (7-8:30pm) -- a great way to experience this writing circle prior to registering for a class!

Get to Know
Ross Gay

Welcome to our monthly series, Get to Know! Here, we'll turn the spotlight on contemporary poets and writers, with the goal of amplifying under-represented voices in literature. These writers' books are currently available in the Women Writing for (a) change library.
It's a point of controversy whether we can separate art from the artist. In the case of Ross Gay, the person is so fully intertwined with his work, the point may be moot. Gay was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and currently lives and teaches in Bloomington, Indiana. There, he is a founding member of the Bloomington City Orchard, a free, open-to-the-public garden full of fruits, vegetables, berries, flowers and all other manner of flora. One doesn't have to read deeply into his work to find evidence of his passion for all things of the earth. Take, for example, an excerpt from one of his many-lined odes: "the sounds of sweeping / and a woman / yes with a / broom beneath / which you are now / too the canopy / of a fig its / arms pulling the / September sun to it / and she / has a hose too / and so works hard / rinsing and scrubbing / the walk / lest some poor sod / slip on
the / silk of a fig / and break his hip / and not
probably / reach over to gobble up / the perpetrator."

Conscious Feminine Leadership
Academy (CFLA) 2022
CFLA grew out of the realization that many aspects of the Women Writing for (a) Change model inspire and support participants' growth as leaders.

Participation in CFLA is an investment in transformational learning and renewal for those who hold space for others, whether in personal relationships or in the public sector. This intensive commitment to learning together represents an investment in one's own personal growth and an evolving understanding of leadership.

Free Discernment Circles (virtual and in-person) will be held beginning in October. These gatherings are designed to help determine whether CFLA is right for you and you for it. Detailed information and application process here.
