A NOTE FROM BRYANT
If you’re looking for church news, keep scrolling. We have all sorts of wonderful information about upcoming services, mission projects and Trunk n Treat below. But Nathan said I could write about whatever I wanted to, so here is where I landed…

Thirty years ago the Braves played in their first World Series. An improbable, but magical run, took them from worst to first in their division and a city overcome with Braves fever. I was 9 at the time and vividly remember my parents making me go to bed before game 7 of the championship finished. I can also remember waking up and crying because we lost and begging my parents to stay home from school. What a season, and what a brutal way for it to end.

If you’re a Braves fan, you’ve lived through all of the ups and downs since that ‘91 season…the Sid Slide, and Joe Carter, the glorious 95 season, and the pain of the 96 season and those **** Yankees. 14 straight division titles with names like Bobby Cox and Chipper Jones, Fred McGriff and Javy Lopez, I’m sure you have your favorite Brave.

Here we are 30 years later, back in the World Series and once again the city of Atlanta has caught Braves fever. Nothing seems to bring a city together like sports.
I love seeing the Braves apparel on Sunday morning and listening to people talk about last night’s game. This team has taught us so many valuable lessons, from perseverance and facing adversity, to welcoming the stranger (hello Eddie Rosario) and staying the course.

A few days from now I might be on top of the world, or down in the dumps, but I won’t forget the impact this team has had on our community and especially my family. My boys are baseball crazy and LOVE the Braves. I let them stay up for game 7 of the NLCS. We partied like it was 1999 and it’s a moment I’ll never forget.

Maybe you have a similar memory with your parents or children. Maybe you were there in 91 or 95. Maybe you don’t care anything for the Braves and have special memories of other teams…that’s ok too.

This has been a long, crazy, exhausting 2 years and I think most of us are grateful for the brief distraction and the joy of watching a beautiful game and cheering on your team.
So I’ll just end by saying this- Go Braves!

SERMON SERIES
Divine Comedy
A Sermon Series

Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy…
                                                           Psalm 126:2

We all need a good laugh from time to time, especially these days. After all, humor has a way of cutting the tension and bringing people together. You might say laughter has the power to bind us, one to the other. Scripture certainly reinforces this idea. In fact, comic relief is found throughout the Bible. In characters who laugh, stories meant to delight and proverbs that make you giggle, comedy is depicted as a gift from the Divine.

NOVEMBER 7th WORSHIP
What does it mean to be a Disciple of Christ in a world that tries to sell us on so many other things? It can be difficult to figure out how we worship together when we are so different, but that has always been this denomination's goal. This week, Jesus uses harsh sounding apocalyptic language while reminding us that although we are not to completely disregard who we are, we are to put God and the God in others above it all.

UPCOMING EVENTS
COMMUNITY SUNDAY SCHOOL
This Sunday, October 31st, Pastor Nathan will wrap up his Community Wide Sunday School in Dunlap Hall.

Together, we will theologically reflect on some of the monsters that show up in the Bible and how they are related to the ones we see this time of year. Perhaps we will learn a little something about ourselves and how we treat one another along the way. Come enjoy this fun, light-hearted study with your SSCC friends. Who knows? You might even get some treats for your participation!
SSCC's 13th ANNUAL TRUNK-N-TREAT (Includes a Service Project)
We will have our 13th annual Trunk n Treat event directly after worship this Sunday, Halloween Day, October 31st from 11:15 am to 1:00 pm. We encourage you and your kids to wear your Halloween costumes to church that morning!

After worship, we will have a service project in Dunlap Hall for kids and adults to participate, as well as snacks, drinks and some time for fellowship. During this time, we invite those of you who will be decorating and setting up your trunks to do so.

The children will head to the parking lot after the service project (around noon) to Trunk n Treat!

We need trunkers though! If you would like to volunteer to provide a trunk, you can email Bryant at youth@sandyspringscc.org, or sign up at the church anytime.

We hope you'll make plans to join us for a wonderful day of service, fun and fellowship!
REMEMBER TO FALL BACK!
Remember to set your alarm for 2:00 am on November 7th so you can turn your clocks back one hour. (Or just do it the night before like everyone else).
ALL SAINTS SUNDAY - 11/14
On Sunday, November 14th we will celebrate All Saints Sunday. This is our annual recognition of those members of our congregation who have died in the past year. We want to remember the deceased and the many ways in which they touched our lives.

Our records indicate that we will read the following members'/Saints' names during the service this year: Kathy Elliott, Ginny Hamilton, Sharon Hanna, Marlene Rhine and Monalea Dalyrmple. However, we want to make sure that we do not omit someone’s name who should be mentioned. Please leave a message at the church or email Amy Frost at amy@sandyspringscc.org.
WE'RE PLANNING A CHILI COOK-OFF!
You're invited to an all-church Chili Cook-off on Sunday, November 14th in Dunlap Hall following service. That’s just around the corner, so put it on your calendar today, and prepare for a fun afternoon with the perfect food to warm everyone up!

Care and Connect will provide all the “extras” to make your chili tasting experience the best! And, anyone old enough to eat chili and have an opinion is invited to help judge! There will be prizes on top of Bragging Rights! When you sign up, please indicate if you will bring a crockpot of your best chili.

THE "WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED" EVENT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!
This past Tuesday, SSCC sponsored an event in conjunction with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office to collect items for cancer patients at Northside Hospital's Cancer Institute.

The Day School kids (The Doodlebugs are pictured here) sure enjoyed collecting items and placing them in the bins with the help of the teachers and the Sheriff's officers that were in attendance. SSCC also had several donations to add. Thanks to all involved!
