Year-End CME Opportunity -
24 Hours CME in One Day
It's not every day you get the chance to earn 24 CME credits in one day, but MAFP is partnering with Alabama AFP to bring that opportunity to our members.

Knowledge Self Assessment sessions, or KSAs, feature attendees working together to complete the KSA 60 multiple-choice core competency questions. The group discussions will be led by a family physician. A set of 60 questions on the subject area are discussed as a group and the answers are turned in as a collective to the American Board of Family Medicine. Attending just one 2.5-hour KSA session allows you to earn 8 hours of CME.

Saturday, Dec. 12, we will offer 3 KSA sessions back-to-back. Members can attend live or virtually. The first session, Depression, will be 8 - 10:30 am; Hypertension will be 11 am - 1:30 pm, and Palliative Care will be 2 - 4:30 pm. All 3 sessions cost $400, 2 sessions cost $300 and one session, $150. Register here.
FamDocPAC Board Meets, Sets Goals
The FamDocPAC, chaired by Dr. Katie Patterson of Indianola, met last week to review bylaws, analyze how to support candidates, and increase public awareness and contributions from members.

The board set a goal of raising $25,000 for 2021. With approximately $9,000 cash on hand, the PAC discussed giving campaigns (see next article). Members who gave last year received a reminder like this to give to the FamDocPAC again. We have several members who have set up monthly contributions collecting almost $600 per month. Use this form to contribute or to set up a recurring payment.

Physician donations in 2019 made it possible for us to support 27 legislative candidates in last November’s statewide election cycle, all of whom are now in office. For more information, please contact Beth Embry.

FMIG Hears from MAFP President, MAFP Staff
The UMMC Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) hosted MAFP President Dr. James Griffin and MAFP Executive Director Beth Embry as guests at last week's virtual meeting. Both answered questions and offered practice tips.

UMMC's FMIG president Weston Eldridge, an M4, serves this year as Student Representative on the MAFP Board. He and other members discussed with Dr. Griffin the different options for practicing family medicine and the impact of being part of a professional association throughout one's career.
It's MAFP Membership Renewal Time -
Please Pay by December 31
THANK YOU to the 99 physicians who have already renewed their MAFP membership for 2021! This year, AAFP is offering a SPECIAL INCENTIVE for all members who pay in full by December 31: Half off a CME livestream course. Details here.

STAY A MEMBER. Here are just 3 ways you benefit:

  • MAFP has someone at the State Capitol representing you. The Academy participates in state legislative hearings and has a paid lobbyist to serve as a go-to resource for members of the Mississippi Legislature.

  • MAFP monitors proposed regulatory actions so we can keep you informed. The Academy attends online and in-person meetings of the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure and works with their staff.

  • MAFP culls through the mounds of information and tells you what's important. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Academy began distributing a daily newsletter summarizing the most important information family physicians needed to know, and continues to distribute news periodically.

To renew your membership, visit this link or call AAFP at 1-800-274-2237.

Public Awareness Grant Benefits Storytelling
MAFP promoted its 'Your Family Doctor is Ready to See You' video and poster campaign, earning a $750 grant.

The grant from the AAFP Family Medicine Philanthropic Consortium seeks to promote family physicians' donations to the AAFP Foundation and asks that we use this statement:

Financial support for this program is provided by the AAFP Foundation to the Family Medicine Philanthropic Consortium (FMPC) and is funded by members like you! Help programs like this continue to support family medicine by giving to the AAFP Foundation. Select “Chapter Grants” when making your gift online,
