News and Updates from HCS
A message from Mrs. Turnbough

Dear Heritage Families,

It is with great excitement, but a touch of sadness that I share with you the news that I have submitted my letter of resignation to Mr. Montgomery and the Board. Now that my boys are older, I have decided to pursue a Juris Doctorate. I’ve been incredibly blessed with the opportunity to work at Heritage. I treasure the friendships I’ve developed while working here and will miss seeing everyone daily. Heritage will always hold a special place in my heart.

Free Books!

Heritage staff are reading Dane Ortland’s Gentle and Lowly as an all staff book study this year. The school received 50 free copies from Crossway Publishing to distribute among our staff. We have approx. 25 copies left over and wanted to make them available to families. If you’re interested in receiving a free copy (limit 2 per household), please stop by the office and pick up a copy of Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Suffers
Parent-Teacher Communication

Reminder parents – if you need to communicate with your child’s teacher, please do so directly with them (or the office). Messages and information that come to teachers from other students – even siblings – don’t always allow teachers to follow up appropriately. It’s always best if you have information to share with your child’s teacher to communicate that information directly to them – either in-person, by phone, or email.
Men's Bible Study - Tomorrow!

Don't forget that tomorrow is our first Men's Bible Study for fathers of Heritage students at 7:30am at the school. Join us tomorrow to dig into God’s word and pray for each other and the school. Questions? Contact Steve Liu at ssliu7911@gmail.com.
What Happened in Chapel this Week?

This week we began our monthlyThroughlineChapel themes by talking about what it means to be a Truth Finder. Mr. Montgomery spoke to PreK-4th grade Chapel about our identity in Christ, being God’s Image Bearers, and that anything that got in the way of our relationship with Jesus was an idol. Mike DeWaard (youth pastor at Parkview Church) spoke to Middle School Chapel, reminding students that idols aren’t just “golden calves” from long ago but those things today – video games, sports, school, anything – that disrupt our focus and take our hearts and minds away from Jesus.

Our earnest prayer this month is that students will understand how much they are loved by God and that they would desire a deeper relationship with him. We are praying that if there are “things” in their lives that get in the way of their relationship with Jesus that they would see those as idols and flee from them (1 Cor. 10:14).

Parents, if you want to check in with your child this month and engage with them about what they’re learning in chapel here are few questions you may want to ask:
·        What is an idol?
·        What does God think of idols?
·        Where does our identity come from?
·        Why is our identity in Christ important when we talk about truth?

You may also want to discuss as a family Exodus 20:5, Deuteronomy 7:7-8, Romans 12:2, and 1 John 5:21 in helping to answer the questions above. Please continue to pray with us that our students’ hearts and minds are bent toward Jesus and they come to know His grace, mercy, and love.
