Dear WES Families,

I am writing to share the results of Thursday’s testing with you. Five students and one faculty member tested positive:

  • PreKB: 1 student
  • 2B: 1 student
  • 3C: 1 student
  • Grade 7: 2 students
  • Employees: 1 specials teacher

Over the weekend, one additional student in 3C tested positive. (This case is not linked to the other 3C case.)

All of our impacted community members either have mild symptoms or are symptom-free.

Also, yesterday the Maryland Department of Health released information about the State’s adoption of the CDC’s new quarantine guidelines.  The school will be meeting this week to discuss how this will impact WES’s quarantining policy. Head of School Danny Vogelman will be in touch by the end of the week.

Test-to-Stay Program
We have received requests to clarify the Test-to-Stay Program.

Eligibility
  • Unvaccinated students who are a close contact to a positive case in school may participate in the program. (Vaccinated students are not considered close contacts.)
  • Vaccinated students and employees who have a positive household member may also participate. (Unvaccinated students are not eligible for Test to Stay when they have a COVID positive household member.)

Details
  • The school will contact parents if their child is eligible for the Test-to-Stay Program.
  • Parents should bring students to school 15 minutes prior to the start of school. I will administer a rapid test, which usually takes about 15 minutes. If the test is negative, the student may stay at school. If the test is positive, the student will go home.
  • Students must test for each day that they would have been in quarantine.
  • The location of the test administration may change throughout the year, but will be communicated to families who are participating.

Important Reminders
  • Any students and employees who are exhibiting COVID-like symptoms should stay home and contact the school.
  • Please communicate any positive cases in the household to the school at covid@w-e-s.org.

Sincerely,
Stacey Bailey, BS, RN, NCSN
