USCCB Urges Congress to Act on Gun Violence
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is urging Catholics to contact their members of Congress asking that they take steps to prevent additional mass shootings.
For many years, the Catholic bishops have supported a number of reasonable measures that address the problem of gun violence. This most recent massacre in Uvalde, as we are still grieving the lives lost in Buffalo, Dallas, Laguna Woods, and now Tulsa, has reminded us all of the urgency for Congress to act now.

The USCCB supports the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (H.R. 8), the Enhanced Background Checks Act (H.R. 1446), and Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act (H.R. 2377). It also supports a total ban on assault weapons, limitations on civilian access to high-capacity weapons and ammunition magazines, measures that control the sale and use of firearms, such as universal background checks for all gun purchases, laws to criminalize gun trafficking, proposals to set a more appropriate minimum age for gun ownership, and a 'bump stocks' ban.
