Finally, Fall Y'all! The anticipation of fall weather has been hanging in the air for several weeks. As we slowly transition into autumn we move into a slower or more Khapa season. During Summer our energy takes on a Pitta quality which is faster and more aggressive. It is nice to slow things down a bit.
This week we sit in our pose of the week. Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana or revolved head to knee pose. Our bodies can become very tight sitting and standing and only moving in lateral movements. Taking a side bend can help relieve stress in the low back, shoulders, hips, and thighs.
Start by sitting on the floor with the left leg outstretched to the side and bend the right leg, press the right foot to the left thigh. The right hand will start at the hip or behind the back as the left-hand slides down to the left foot. As the side body releases, reach the left hand further and rotate the right shoulder open. This can be a challenge at first but as we practice this posture we release tension in the back. Repeat on the other side.
