Meet Lakeway's New Chief of Police
At a special City Council meeting earlier this week, councilmembers voted unanimously to approve the hire of Glen Koen as the next Chief of Police for the City of Lakeway. Chief Koen is a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin (UT). He also graduated as valedictorian from the West Point Leadership Academy.

Chief Koen served in a variety of law enforcement roles over the years. Over the past two decades he served as patrol officer, sergeant, detective sergeant, inspector and academy commander with UT. He was one of the founding members of the System Rapid Response Team, a unit created to handle critical incidents for the UT system. He most recently served as Assistant Police Chief with the Mukilteo Police Department, which is a community just north of Seattle. In that role, he also served as the Commander of the North Sound Metro SWAT Team, which is a multi-jurisdictional tactical team serving a population of around 370,000.

The search for a new chief of police began the middle of this year with the city seeking input from the community and Lakeway staff. More than 40 individuals applied for the position. A community survey was sent over the summer to residents seeking input on the qualities the community wanted to see in the next chief. Additionally, a special committee was formed to assist in the hiring process.

Chief Koen's first day in office will be Monday, Nov. 22. A 'meet-and-greet' community event is being planned at the Lakeway Police Department in early December. More information on that event will be released soon.
