Open Enrollment is Almost Here
Know Your Terms for Open Enrollment
Open Enrollment is starting soon! Be prepared to take action and enroll or waive benefits April 17-May 5 by visiting the Open Enrollment page on The Commons for virtual resources, one-on-one support, Benefits Guide (in English and Spanish), and more! Sign up to attend a benefit fair and learn more.

Make sure you know these key terms and how they affect your benefits:

  • Deductible is the amount you pay for covered health services before your insurance starts to pay.
  • Out-of-Pocket Maximum is the most you can pay for covered health services in one plan year.
  • Benefit Credit is the amount that DPS contributes towards your health insurance premiums.
  • Premium is the amount you pay per month for health insurance. In the Benefits Guide, this amount is shown per paycheck.
  • Auto-Enrollment means that you did not elect or waive benefits during your Open Enrollment or New Hire Enrollment periods. In that case, DPS automatically enrolls you in a plan to make sure that you have access to affordable health care. Learn more about auto-enrollment at the Auto Enrollment page on The Commons.
  • Supplemental Insurance are extra, optional benefits available to all DPS employees. These benefits work with your medical, dental and vision plans to provide comprehensive coverage specific to you and your family’s unique needs. These plans can help you enhance your benefits strategy, manage costs and minimize financial vulnerability. While these plans support your medical, vision and dental plans, they do not replace them. Additional insurance options are available for legal expenses, long term care needs, home/auto coverage and even pet insurance. Learn more by visiting the Supplemental Insurance page on The Commons.

Sign Up for Team Presentations for Open Enrollment
If you work 20 hours or more per week, you are eligible for benefits and must take action during Open Enrollment. Between April 17-May 5, you must log in to the Benefits Enrollment Site and either enroll or waive benefits. Employees who do not take action will be auto-enrolled in the MotivHealth plan option (employee only, post-tax and an HSA). Learn more about MotivHealth and auto-enrollment on The Commons.

Know the Signs: Substance Abuse and Prevention
According to the National Survey of Drug Use and Health (SAMHSA), 57.8% of people aged 12 and older used tobacco, alcohol, or an illicit drug each month. You can help someone you’re worried about by listening to what they’re going through and referring them to one of DPS’s supportive programs. DPS offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Compsych. Employees have access to five free sessions with a therapist, counselor or medical physician to get them the help they may be seeking. Learn more about your EAP benefits by visiting the EAP page on The Commons.
Review 2023 Financial Services Year-End Deadline
Review the Fiscal Year 2023 Financial Services Year-End Deadline Memo for upcoming important dates regarding year-end close. Failing to complete these year-end processes by June 30 could have budget implications for the 2023-24 Fiscal Year. If you have any questions, contact your Financial Partner.
Living Our DPS Honoree
Jill Spivey
Teacher, Thomas Jefferson High School
Integrity

"When dealing with online classes (credit recovery) there is the opportunity for widespread cheating. Although it would be easier to look the other way and just pass students regardless of their academic integrity, Jill Spivey always holds Thomas Jefferson's Credit Recovery Department to the highest level of honesty. She holds everyone in Credit Recovery to a standard that ensures the integrity of the program. If this was not the case, the CR program would dissolve into 'just going through the motions.' Thomas Jefferson is proud of its very successful credit recovery. Many students who would not be able to graduate can walk because Jill works hard to keep this program a real and viable path for students who may need to make up a class, and makes sure the highest academic standards are achieved."
