Northwood School Laker
January 7, 2022
Message from the Superintendent

Dear Northwood Families,
At this time, the Covid 7-Day total PCR positivity rate is 21.1% in the Northwood Community. Per the Northwood School District 2021-2022 Reopening Plan (approved on September 8th, 2021), the school will maintain phase 4B. Masks will continue to be required in the Northwood School. This will be reevaluated by the Covid Response Team on January 14th. Please find additional information regarding the Reopening Plan and the school's COVID response on the Northwood School website.

Additionally, please see the following statement from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services regarding CDC isolation/quarantine guidance:

“State public health officials have reviewed the press statement issued by the CDC regarding isolation and quarantine and look forward to reviewing the CDC’s complete guidance once published. Once official guidance is available, the State will be able to determine how best to implement these changes in New Hampshire for the general public and in settings such as healthcare, residential facilities and schools. At this time, residents should continue to follow NH's current isolation guidance and quarantine guidance. Changes to the State’s guidance will be based on the CDC’s full recommendations, and will be updated on https://www.covid19.nh.gov/ and in a Health Alert Network message to healthcare providers.”

After the COVID Response Team has had time to review the upcoming DHHS document we will work to implement the changes in Northwood School. Our hope is to be able to update our current plan and put the new DHHS recommendations in place within two school days of receiving their documents. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Nate Byrne, Superintendent of Schools
Asbestos Notification
The Northwood School Board is required by law to notify all “occupants” of the school regarding the existence of asbestos within the school and the plan to manage it. Following a plan developed by the Board and supported by the community, asbestos within Northwood School has been removed or sealed following prescribed procedures with the exception of a small number of floor tiles which pose no danger to students, staff, or anyone using the building. If you have any questions regarding this notification or would like to review the asbestos management plan, please feel free to call the SAU at 603-942-1290 or the Northwood School office at 603-942- 5488.
Mid-Year NWEA Testing
Next week, we will begin administering the mid-year NWEA assessment in reading and math. NWEA is a computer-based test that provides your child's teacher and/or team with valuable information about your child's growth which helps us to adjust our practices moving forward. Tests are administered by the teacher within the child's classroom and typically last less than an hour, though students may take longer if needed. Teachers schedule their testing sessions based on their class schedules and student needs. Tests are spaced out over multiple days to avoid assessment fatigue. Check out NWEA's family toolkit for additional information here.

If you have any questions regarding NWEA testing, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher, Mr. Ling, or me. We anticipate that testing will be complete by the end of January.

Have a wonderful weekend!

~ Jocelyn
