Greetings!

Spring has sprung and we are all enjoying our beautiful corner of the world in the best way possible - on two or three wheels! Hope you enjoy reading about what we as an organization are doing to ensure continued access by all to this terrific sport.
Call to Action: Complete Streets

Everyone wants to have the options…walking, biking, taking the car or even the bus. However, for this to work you need to have sidewalks, bike lanes and planned streets. This design which accommodates all transportation users (and not just cars) is called “Complete Streets” and most towns and cities have policies and regulations that require all these when new roads and streets are developed. However, this policy does not currently exist in St. George but the city council will soon be considering such a regulation.

The City of St George is considering a Complete Street Policy. This policy could significantly and positively impact road design moving forward - making streets more bikable!

We invite you to take 5 minutes to
  1. Watch this short video about the policy.
  2. Respectfully email city council members your support using your own words or personalize it using our sample text
  3. For more information on Complete Streets, please see this fact sheet:

Cedar City “Slow Roll”

Cedar City Slow Roll will be held on May 7, 2021 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm beginning at 300 W. University Blvd (parking available in the SUU PE parking lot). Admission is free and all non-motorized wheels are welcome! Kick off the summer with the Slow Roll community bike ride! Join the Cedar City Active Transportation Committee for a family-friendly block-party experience, with bands, food trucks, popsicles, and weather permitting, the fire department’s hose to keep you cool. The route will follow the roads around Southern Utah University.
Pop-Up Demonstration Project a Big Success

Earlier this Spring,, DSU students and several active transportation organizations including SUBA, showcased what a bike lane might look like on University Blvd (700 East). This involved creating a temporary bike lane and gathering feedback from potential users over two days. Here is a great video showcasing this project.
Short Takes…

Looking for new places to ride? Check out the new Greater Zion Road Cycling Page (with turn-by-turn signage provided by SUBA. https://greaterzion.com/road-bike-routes/ If paved trails are your thing…check out the St. George City Trails map

The City of St. George will be doing paved trail maintenance this Spring. During April and May, crack filling and seal coating of trails will be performed, and all riders may see occasional trail interruptions. Please observe all warning and “trail closed” signage.

The final leg of the Southern Parkway (SR7) from Sand Hollow to Hurricane will open in mid-May and have wide bikeable shoulders. However, Hurricane City Police have asked us to spread the word that this section of road remains closed during final paving and construction. Cyclists seen ignoring the Road Closed signs will be cited and their bikes confiscated. SUBA is currently working to find a way for cyclists to enjoy this road, especially Ironman competitors eager for a glimpse of the bike course, however as of now the road remains closed to all users.
