MESSAGE FROM RICKY

Dear Friends,

Well, we're back to winter for a bit! But it looks like the weather will warm back up soon. I reminded of the saying, "If you don't like the weather in Mississippi, just wait a minute!" But this is also very true of the life of faith. You may feel like things are warming up and the sun is shining, and then there are days when it's cold and rainy. But for those in Christ, we have the promise that God is with us every moment, no matter the weather.

This is also the power and promise of the Lenten season. As we reflect on our preparation for Easter, we confront the reality of our sin and our tendency to not fully trust in God. But Easter is the reminder that our worst days are never our last days.

This coming Sunday, we welcome our last guest preacher, Rev. Susan Eaton. She is Pastor of Discipleship at Parkway Heights in Hattiesburg, and a graduate of Asbury Seminary. She is a gifted Bible teacher and you will be blessed by the word she will bring. No matter the weather, hope to see you Sunday!

Grace and Peace

Ricky

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

LOVING KIDS MINISTRY & SUNDAY SCHOOL

By. Allison Killebrew

I spend at least one Sunday a month volunteering in the Children's Ministry by teaching our 3rd through 5th graders. In the past I have taught the preschool class as well as the Kindergarten through 2nd grade class. Sometimes I have taught my own girls, and sometimes I have just been the teacher. This is truly one of the most rewarding things I do each month. I have taught with my husband and currently I am teaching with my friend Stacey Thornton. We try to make Sunday School fun, and a place the kids are excited to come. We have carved pumpkins, exploded cokes, microwaved Ivory soap, made Lent in a Bag, and had a nativity scene scavenger hunt. I learn so much in researching the lesson and trying to find ways to make the words in the bible memorable and alive. At this point the kids always know that Mrs. Allison is loud and is probably going to make a mess. One of my favorite memories is making resurrection rolls with the kids before Easter last year. I forgot marshmallows, but Mrs. Stacey saved the day by appearing with some Easter peeps. We talked about how the inside of the Peep was white... like Jesus is white and clean. And we rolled the Peep in butter and then cinnamon and sugar, just like Jesus' body was anointed with oil and spices after he died. Then we wrapped the Peeps in crescent roll dough and baked them. When we opened the dough... or our tomb... it was amazingly empty. A mother texted me later that day and said her kids told her all about rolling Peep Jesus in butter, and she just knew that I was the Sunday School teacher. I had wonderful Sunday School teachers growing up at Alta Woods UMC. I want to make sure the kids in this church grow up with the same type of memories. And I assure you, I always learn new things and walk away blessed.
