2021 AACI/CCAF Annual Meeting: Day 1 Overview

Many thanks to the many cancer center members who participated today in the 2021 annual meeting of the Association of American Cancer Institutes and the Cancer Center Administrators Forum, held virtually again this year due to health concerns and restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today’s program included panel discussions on telehealth and cancer care at home; COVID-19’s impact on cancer centers, patients, practitioners, and communities; computational oncology; and cancer care across the lifespan.

Presentations included a brief video by meeting exhibitor Advarra. Thank you to all meeting exhibitors and supporters and be sure to visit them in our virtual exhibit hall beginning at 10:00 am ET tomorrow.

Please join AACI tomorrow for the second day of the meeting. Dr. Henry Ciolino, director of the National Cancer Institute’s Office of Cancer Centers, will provide an update on the NCI cancer centers program, and AACI President Dr. Caryn Lerman and Dr. Karen E. Knudsen, AACI’s former president, will make presentations about their AACI presidential initiatives.

Three AACI awards will be presented tomorrow: the Distinguished Scientist Award to Dr. Judy E. Garber; the inaugural Cancer Health Equity Award to Dr. Robert A. Winn; and the Champion for Cures Award to Sidney and Caroline Kimmel. In addition, Dr. Robert T. Croyle, former director of the NCI’s Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences, will be honored for his service to the cancer research community.
