Dear Riordan Families,

We hope everyone had a great week! There are lots of announcements for this week, and thank you for reading all the way through.

Our school community does a fantastic job with wearing masks. Please continue to do so to keep everyone safe, and as a reminder, it is always a good idea to keep an extra mask on hand.

We hope you enjoyed Tuesday's Back to School Night; here's the link to view an encore of faculty videos. Also, a big thank you to our Parent Board for putting together the meet and greet on Wednesday. Here is a link for those interested in volunteering at various events during the year.

Sincerely,

Riordan Administration
Parents, we need your feedback!

Archbishop Riordan High School is beginning the process of creating a new strategic plan for the school. Strategic planning develops a shared vision and a common path among the stakeholders of an organization and produces a blueprint for how to achieve that vision.

The feedback you provide in this survey is an important part of the strategic planning process and will be reviewed by the school as part of the planning.
Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pick-Up

The back gate will be open 7:30 - 8:40 am daily for drop-off ONLY. Do not pull into the parking area, follow the cones and proceed straight through. The parking lot is reserved for Faculty and Staff only.

For pick-up in the afternoon the only location is the front of school, plan accordingly and follow all traffic laws. Do not make illegal u-turns and do not park in the bus lanes. The back lot will not be open in the afternoons.
Welcome, Mr. Lee Mauga, Boarding RA and Front of School Security

Mr. Mauga will be in the front of the school from 7:30 to 10:15 am daily to help move students and facilitate safety measures during drop off. Students should follow directions from Mr. Mauga if they are tardy or arriving after 8:40 am.

Books for English

As students in the fall English classes are wrapping up the summer reading review of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, teachers are preparing to present more literary gemsfrom Shakespeare to Steinbeck and Marquez to Morrison. Students are asked to obtain a hard copy of the book for classroom use, but an audio or e-book may be used at home.

Many of the titles are available in local bookstores, public libraries, and even Riordan’s library! In addition, students should check with their teachers to see if a book they need is available through the English Department book donation drive. Please click here to see what books students will need for this semester; they are listed in order, but it is advisable to purchase all the books at once to avoid any lapses in learning.

Being back at school - how does it feel?

Resuming in-person learning after more than a year of virtual or hybrid schooling can bring up a wide range of emotions, from excited to apprehensive. Anxiety around a big change is typical, and there are ways to help your student cope so it’s more enjoyable. Sometimes these worries make a child want to avoid certain activities or places; they can also cause the person to have trouble at school or to be anxious around friends or social situations. Remind your child that everyone feels nervous at times and that they will get through it--every moment is a chance to take a deep breath and start fresh. Another positive strategy they can add to their toolkit is being your own mental coach--say to yourself, “I can do it! I’m going to be okay.”

If you notice your student is feeling extra anxious, have them reach out to Counseling to talk through it and get some help! We are here for you.
