Public Works Projects:

33rd / 34th St. Road and Utility Improvements


Beginning the week of April 24, TLC Plumbing and Utility will be working on the utility portion of the project: starting the storm drain, curb drop inlet installation, sidewalk, drive pad and curb & gutter removals. The storm drain installation may impact residents that live in the area of the intersection of 33rd and 34th streets.  


There will be two one-way detours, one on 33rd Street and one on 34th Street. Detours will be taken down in the evenings.


The transit bus stop on 33rd will be temporarily closed throughout the duration of the project. Riders can use the transit stop on 35th Street.



Fuller Lodge Canopy Replacement Project


The main entrance to Fuller Lodge Art Center will be closed intermittently due to overhead work to replace the canopy above the doors. Detour signs will be in place directing patrons to the east side entrance of the Art Center. 




Traffic & Streets Projects:

Excavation Work Across from Aquatic Center Resumes

 

Traffic Electricians will continue excavating along both sides of the pedestrian bridge on the walkway along Canyon Road across from the Aquatic Center. Work should begin on Monday, April 24 and continue until completed. No sidewalk closures are anticipated; however, we urge pedestrian traffic to stay on the walkway and watch for equipment, safety devices, and workers in the area. Crews will begin daily at 8 a.m. and end by 3:30 p.m. until completed.

Road Striping Continues in White Rock and Los Alamos


Weather permitting, crews will continue striping roads in Los Alamos through the end of May. Work will begin daily at 8 a.m. and end by 4 p.m. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic are urged to stay clear of the striping operation and maintain a safe distance to avoid being sprayed by paint.




Utilities Projects:

Trenching for Electric Continues on Barranca Mesa


Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is replacing primary underground electric lines and conduit at the eastern end of Barranca Mesa. The work will reduce or eliminate the risk of electric outages where the existing infrastructure has a history of repeated failures. The project is expected to continue through April. 



DPU’s contractor, Paul Parker Construction Company, is excavating between 410 and 500 Navajo Road and south on Totavi Street. Excavation continues across the intersection of Totavi and Navajo and then through to the end of the Totavi cul-de-sac. Residents in the area should expect sidewalk closures and exercise caution while driving through the work zone. All trenching is on one side of the street. 




Non-County Projects: 


The following road construction updates are posted below in the interest of keeping residents informed but are being managed or conducted by others. Please obey all traffic devices and slowdown in work zones.




Annual Dog Jog April 29 at Rover Park in White Rock

 

Friends of the Shelter and Companion Animals are having their annual Dog Jog event in White Rock beginning at Rover Park Saturday, April 29 beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 11 a.m. 


5K Runners will begin at Rover Park, travel to Rover Blvd., then Meadow Lane, around to Rover Blvd. and back to Rover Park.


1K Runners and walkers will begin at Rover Park, travel to Rover Blvd., then to Bryce Ave., on to Meadow Lane, around to Rover Blvd., and back to Rover Park. 


Participants will be running on the sidewalk except for crossing intersections at Rover and Bryce, and Meadow and Bryce. Volunteers will be assisting both vehicle and pedestrian traffic at these intersections. Traffic is urged to slow down at these intersections and work with the volunteers to get all traffic through the intersections safely.

NMDOT: Repaving project begins on U.S. 84/285 in Espanola - 

Motorists should expect minor delays

 

The New Mexico Department of Transportation along with Brasier Asphalt Inc. will begin a pavement rehabilitation project on Friday April 21, 2023, on U.S. 84/285 in Espanola. 

 

Work will take place from mile marker 180 to 189, Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. One lane will be closed during working hours. All traffic control devices will be removed at the end of each workday, and all lanes of traffic will be reopened.

 

This 10-mile-long project is expected to be completed by Wednesday May 31, 2023.

 

Motorists should use caution, obey posted speed limits, expect delays and plan accordingly.


NNSA – Update dated March 31, 2023:

Construction is Continuing on Improvements to NM 4/East Jemez Road Intersection


Crews are continuing construction on a project to improve the intersection of NM 4 and East Jemez Road.


During Phase 1-B, expected to last about two months, through late May 2023, crews are working on both sides of NM 4 as well as on the north shoulder of E. Jemez Road. The following traffic impacts are in place:


  • The speed limit throughout the construction area is reduced to 35 MILES PER HOUR. PLEASE OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT.

 

  • Access to the parking area for the Bandelier National Monument Tsankawi Unit is COMPLETELY CLOSED as of Monday, April 3, 2023. No alternate access will be provided. A new access is expected to be open in late October 2023.


  • Crews will begin removing curb and gutter around the intersection the week of May 1-5 and also will work on preparing subgrade for base course for the median area. Detour paving for the area is tentatively scheduled the week of May 8-12.


  • The existing traffic signals are scheduled to be replaced with temporary signals the weeks of April 24-28 and May 1-5.


During construction, all existing travel lanes on NM 4 and E. Jemez Road will remain open during peak travel times – 6:30-8:30 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. Any lane closures will occur during non-peak hours and flaggers will direct traffic. All construction is weather permitting and is subject to change without notice.


Motorists are encouraged to slow down and give themselves additional time to reach their destination. More construction phases will follow, with the project expected to be completed in late 2023.
