The kids are back in school, traffic has picked up (a bit), but we are still in the thick of the hot weather. It's been tough to get outside as much as we'd like with the smoke from the fires, but we have hope they will get better soon. City Council moves 3 important projects forward |
|
We are pleased to report that the Cupertino City Council has voted to approve and move forward three important projects in Cupertino that are beneficial for cyclists in our city: Phase 2 of the McClellan separated bike lanes, Phase 1 of the Stevens Creek separated bike lanes, and the permit to develop the Oaks/Westport project. All votes on these projects were unanimous, and thanks go to every Councilmember for their approvals of these projects to make our city more liveable and enjoyable. Regnart Creek Trail News
We have found out the expected go/no go vote in October will now instead be in January or February of next year. The vote will be for the City Council to approve the construction cost bids.
We'll keep you updated when the final design plans are available (expected this November) so that you can get a look at what's planned for all aspects of the trail. Thank you for your continuing support of this great project!

The Great Bicycle Boom of 2020

How busy are we? Well, we have over 400 active work orders in our service department. Not only are we building new bicycles for anxious riders, repairing our regular customer’s trusty steeds and handling a daily stream of walk-in repairs, but oh no, that isn’t even the best part.
All the bikes that have been hiding in the darkest reaches of people's garages, full of spider webs and dried-out tires are suddenly re-discovered by their owners and flooding the shop. Trail Head Cyclery is not the only bike shop seeing the boom, because we sold all the parts for those old bikes and have been working really hard to find more. Brake pads, tires, tubes, chains, derailleurs, shifters, gears and all the rest have rotted out or rusted shut but their owners want to ride again. And ride they shall! Read more...

Student Board Advisor Lawrence Fan started a group called COVID Networks with four other Cupertino High School students to help Seniors who are feeling isolated during the Covid-19 pandemic. They created an online plaform that connects teen volunteers and senior residents for discussions, game playing, music performances, art, and more.

Boardmember Seema Lindskog leads a group called Masks for Heroes, which has donated around 5,000 high quality, washable 100% cotton masks with N99 membranes to medical professionals, nursing homes, vulnerable residents, local organizations, and more during the pandemic. The group of almost 50 local community volunteers has cut, sewed, packaged and delivered the masks. ...read more

Cupertino has initiated a Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program. Their webpage here has guidelines for how to request traffic calming measures in your neighborhood such as speed humps or radar speed-checking signs.

Next Tuesday 9/15, the Cupertino City Council will discuss installing a rainbow crosswalk across Stevens Creek Blvd at Finch Avenue, prompted by a grassroots resident petition. The petition and information can be found here. Public comment is welcome at all Council meetings.

"Walk Audit" projects (infrastructure projects that are specific to each school to improve walking and biking access) have now been compiled for each school. These projects can be at the schools, or on local city streets surrounding schools. To learn more, contact Safe Routes to School City Coordinator Cherie Walkowiak here.

Don't Miss this One-time Free Bike Repair Event |
|
Is your bike in need of a repair or tune-up? Have you been unable to wait 4-6 weeks to get it done at a bike shop? Bring it to the Silicon Valley Bike Coalition Free Bike Repair and Safety Check Event in Sunnyvale this month!
At the event, volunteer mechanics will perform basic maintenance and repairs to your bike. Then they will teach you how to verify that your bike is safe to ride using the ABC Quick Check method. You will also get a new 2020 county bike map of the best biking routes!

Location: The parking lot across from Walt's Cycle in downtown Sunnyvale

Friends of Stevens Creek Trail Trailblazer Race
The Trailblazer Race is a fun way to support urban trails and help advocate for extending the Stevens Creek Trail. For this year's race, participants can run or walk anywhere (even at home on the treadmill) for 3 miles, 5K, or 10K between September 18-27. Get all the information and register here.
