Ganon Bet Welcomes Parents to the Classroom

Ganon Bet had many special visitors this week! On Tuesday, four parent volunteers came to help us bake Hamantaschen and decorate mishloach manot bags. On Wednesday, we learned about dental hygiene and the job of a dentist from one of the parents in the class. It is always very exciting when parents come to visit Ganon Bet!

Ganon Aleph Builds Shushan Palaces

In Ganon Aleph we created Shushan Palaces in connection to the Purim story. First, we thought about what shapes we would need to create a palace. Next, we used black sharpies to draw out our ideas. Then, we filled in our drawings with bright watercolors to bring the paintings to life. These magnificent works of art are beautiful and unique. We are so excited to display them in our classroom for all to see.

STEM Artists

Channeling their inner Jackson Pollock, 4th & 5th grade STEM elective students coded spheros to collaborate and create a masterpiece! Just like Pollock, their work of art was completed without ever bringing a brushstroke to the canvas. We are very impressed with the results!

Thank you to President Washington for visiting our students this week!

First Grade Mathematicians

What an exciting time to be in first grade! Our mathematicians have been busy learning how to tell time using analog and digital clocks. We had fun creating our own clocks and practicing telling time to the hour and half-hour. We perfected our skills as we played Time Bingo, Time Memory, and other fun games!

Our first graders have been counting down all year to our 100th day of school. As part of our celebration, the students wrote get well cards to be delivered to people in a local hospital, which total 100 cards all together. What a beautiful act of chesed to add to our momentous occasion!

Grade 2 SEL Update

After concluding their first unit on recognizing, understanding, and regulating emotions, 2nd grade is excited to begin a new unit, focusing on the social aspects of SEL! This unit was kicked off with activities centered around perspective taking: Students reached inside a container (“Ned’s Head”) from different angles and described what objects they had felt inside (a rubix cube, pencil, ball…). It was interesting to hear the different perspectives about what was inside! Students also had a chance to view pictures that, when zoomed in, looked as if those pictured were doing something wrong, but when zoomed out, the fuller picture provided a different perspective. We used these experiences to speak about how we might see things from one point of view, but just because we’re right, it doesn’t mean that someone else must be wrong.

Rosh Chodesh Roller Blading

This week our Lower School and Middle School students celebrated Rosh Chodesh Adar with the roller blading in the lower school gym! Thank you to YPAA for sponsoring this great programming for our students.

Poetry Slam

After weeks of learning about poets such as Gwendlyn Brooks, Langston Hughes, and Maya Angelou, the 8th graders were tasked with writing their own poem. Some poems were about identity, others about a beloved pet. Each poem expressed something about who this amazing group of 8th graders is as individuals. After in-class competitions, 8 students were chosen to compete in today's grade wide poetry slam. Spencer Gottesman, Tiferet Goodman, Ayelet Yolkut, Aiden Wisotsky, Zachy Horwitz, Zachary Friedman, Benji Shiner and Gabriella Butler all read their poems aloud to the grade Congratulations to Aiden, Benjy and Zachy, this year’s top three Yavneh Poet Laureates.
