High Dust Alert
A High Dust Alert was issued earlier this week by Air Central Texas due mainly to Saharan dust in the region. Air quality may remain 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' today and possibly through the weekend as the dust lingers throughout the area. While the dust can create beautiful sunsets, it can also cause health problems for those vulnerable to dust pollution. It's also causing air quality to be at PM 2.5, which means the 'particle matter' associated with the pollution in the air is 2.5 micrometers or smaller. That form of pollution can get deep into the lungs and into the bloodstream, causing potential health problems such as decreased lung function, aggravated asthma and irregular heartbeats, according to Air Central Texas. It's suggested that those vulnerable to dust pollution (and the brutal Texas heat) stay indoors when this kind of pollution is in the air, in an area with filtered air if possible, and try to keep activity levels low.
