Winter Commencement Moves to Virtual Format
Team,

I look forward to commencement every year. It is the ceremonial representation of what a university strives to achieve. It is the manifestation of why we do what we do. I am always moved watching our students cross the stage, many with tears in their eyes, as they celebrate the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Commencement does my heart good. And we could all use that, since this year has been particularly difficult; both graduates and our University community deserve a celebration of the grit and determination that has helped us weather 2020.

However, the safety of our ISU family is paramount. It is with the heaviest of emotion that we have made the difficult decision to restructure our in-person commencement ceremony to a virtual format. The in-person ceremony, originally scheduled for November 21, will be cancelled, and a virtual ceremony will occur at the completion of the semester, on December 12.

An email about this move to a virtual ceremony was just sent to all graduates.

This has been a difficult and trying time for all of our students, and for many others, this is the second graduation ceremony that has been cancelled. We share in their disappointment. Please know that we are diligently working to make this virtual celebration worthy of their hard work and accomplishments. Additional information regarding the virtual ceremony will be shared in the near future. Faculty will be given the opportunity to submit video messages of congratulations and support to the graduates.

If you have graduates that you work with, mentor, teach, or advise, please let them know how incredibly proud you are of their accomplishments in attaining a degree.

Thanks,
––Kevin
