August 25, 2021

Welcome back to school! It's been wonderful and busy welcoming our students to school this week. It is an honor that you have chosen St. Edward to educate your children.

Lots of activities are already starting this year! See updated calendar events below.

Handbook Agreements, Family Pledges, and Emergency forms are due this week. Links to these form are below and are required of each family.

Physical forms for all new students, all PK, Kindergarten, and sixth grade students are due by the end of August.

With the protection of all of our students our top priority, students must be masked when they arrive on campus in the morning and as they are finding their ride after school. All parents and family members dropping off or picking up students, regardless of vaccination status, are also asked to wear a mask outside during drop-off and pick-up due to the number of individuals gathering outside the school buildings.

I am looking forward to the 21-22 school year and working with you to help all of our students grow in all aspects of their lives. We have a wonderful and supportive school community. Please reach out with any questions.

St. Edward, pray for us!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Sara Lasica
Principal

SEPO News

  • Come out and celebrate the new school year at Movie Under the Stars on Friday, August 27. The main parking lot will open at 6:30 and the movie "Luca" will be shown at dusk (around 7:30). This is "Ravinia-Style", so feel free to bring your own beverages and snacks. The 8th Grade will also be providing concessions and a taco truck with items for purchase as a fundraiser for the Class of 2022.

  • SEPO is also looking for Room rep volunteers for each classroom. Room reps send out emails on behalf of upcoming school / SEPO events, communicate with the teacher regarding classroom needs, organize classroom parties and are in charge of creating the classroom basket for the Big Red Auction. If you are interested in helping out in this vital role, email Jacquie, [email protected]

Who's ready for some football? Our first major fundraiser is underway just in time for football season. Buy your Football Mania tickets. Each ticket is $25 and St. Ed's will have at least one guaranteed winner each week of the regular NFL season.

For every 3 tickets purchased, your family will earn a NUT card! Tickets can be purchased online or by sending tickets and payments to the school office. Paper tickets will go home with students on Thursday, August 26. For more information or with questions, email [email protected]

Health and Safety Updates

This guidance is aligned with the most recent guidance from the CDC and local health departments. The Archdiocese of Chicago will continue to update guidance depending on the number of COVID cases keeping the health of our staff, students, and families the top priority.

  • All staff and students (regardless of vaccination status) are required to wear masks while indoors.
  • 3 feet of distance will be kept between students at all times when possible without disrupting best academic practices.
  • We will continue regular cleaning of all classrooms and common spaces including multiple cleanings of high touch areas.
  • Visitors and volunteers are allowed in the buildings and are required to wear masks. All volunteers must have met all of the Archdiocesan compliance program requirements.
  • Classroom windows will be open to increase ventilation when the weather allows. Air purifiers will continue to be used in each classroom.
  • Students should have a reusable water bottle with them daily as the water fountains will only be used as refill stations.
  • If a student exhibits symptoms, regardless of vaccination status, the student should not attend school. If symptoms last longer than 24 hours, the student can return to school when symptoms subside with a negative COVID test and/or an alternative diagnosis. No student should return to school unless he/she is fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
  • If a student tests positive, regardless of vaccination status, the student must quarantine for 10 days from the onset of symptoms or 10 days from the positive test (whichever came first). The student must be fever free for 24+ hours before returning to school even if the 10 day quarantine has ended.
  • Per CDC guidance, we will no longer need to quarantine full classes. Only unvaccinated individuals regularly within 3 feet of a positive individual must quarantine. Vaccinated students and staff do not need to quarantine if they are asymptomatic. A copy of the student's COVID vaccination card must be on record in the school office. Unvaccinated students and staff who are close contacts to positive household members, including siblings, must quarantine for 14 days from last exposure.
  • We will continue to follow Chicago Travel Ban restrictions. Students and staff who are vaccinated and who travel to an Orange State do not need to quarantine. Unvaccinated students and staff who travel to an Orange State must obtain a negative COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Chicago (or in Chicago) or quarantine for a 10 day period.
What is TRIP?

TRIP (Tuition Reduction Incentive Program) helps families lower tuition payments at no cost to the family! Purchase physical or e-gift cards through the Raise Right app at face value. A percentage of the purchase price of the card is donated back to your family's tuition account by the various vendors. Raise Right sells gift cards and e-gift cards for gas, grocery, stores, restaurants, hotels, and many other businesses. We have families who earn hundreds of dollars in tuition each year!

You can purchase e-gift cards anytime on the app or purchase physical gift cards through the school office. TRIP orders are processed the second and fourth Thursdays each month.
