When the Numbers Look
Too Good to Be True
Sometimes a PCB material has great numbers. Things like very low signal loss or very low CTE. This is often achieved with tons of filler or other additives and these very things make it a terrible PCB material. A block of resin and glass may test well, but a robust PCB that performs as well in assembly as it does on the test bench is another matter. Take a look at these pictures. This is an example of a material with good loss and CTE numbers, but performs poorly at the PCB fab, let alone the assembler.

We are lucky enough to have materials in our toolbox that don’t do this.

What's wrong with these pictures? Call me and I'll tell you.
I'll be glad to help.
