FBGZLWr image

For this workshop, Young at Art: Photo Safari on the C&O Canal, participants will be transported along the C&O Canal to a series of outdoor photography shoots. This full-day field trip will begin at Canal Place at 9:00AM, returning participants to their cars at approximately 4:00PM. During the safari, photographers will explore the Canal boat reproduction, Potomac River, and Blue Bridge. Additional stops will include Lock 75, the western-most lift lock along the C & O Canal; and Spring Gap, where participants will walk along the canal to capture reflections. Participants will then travel to Lock 70 where they will have lunch and have time to capture photos before visiting the Thomas Cresap House with Champ Zumbrun, a retired forest ranger who has written and published two books, including one he co-authored, entitled Cresap's Rifles.

About the Instructor

UsU0M0L image

Penny Knobel-Besa is a long-time member of the Allegany Arts Council and serves on its Photography Committee. As an experienced photographer, she frequently leads workshops and photography field trips in the area challenging photographers not only to find a great shot, but to allow the unexpected and understand the journey is just as important as the destination. She will lead registrants in a series of shoots, giving pointers and encouraging amateur photographers to look for the unexpected. Knobel-Besa’s work has been featured in the 2019 and 2020 Will’s Creek Exhibition of Fine Art and the Allegany National Photography Competition & Exhibition.

Registration

Registration is free but limited to 12 participants. Registrants should be able to walk comfortably in park-like settings, and be able to ride a passenger bus between locations. Registrants should also plan to bring a camera - cell phone cameras are acceptable. Transportation and lunch will be provided in this day-long workshop.

Any guests requiring assistance with mobility accommodations or dietary needs, or if a camera is needed, should contact us. To register, please contact us at art@alleganyarts.org or at 301.777.2787. Participants must be age 55 or older to participate.

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
