Welcome
Dear ,

It's one of my favorite times of the year and yet, like most of 2020, its vastly different than usual . . . better in some ways and not as great in others.

Yesterday, Mother Nature delivered over 3 FEET of snow to Weston and we're still digging out. I am so incredibly thankful to all of the plow drivers out there - state and town road crews and our local plow guys!

Yesterday was also what I like to call Happy Giving Day at Mary Mitchell Miller Real Estate. It's the day I have the privilege of writing checks to support our end-of-the-year charitable giving. Of course, we donate throughout the year, but it's the December contributions that really amount to something and, when I look at the pile of envelopes I'm about to mail, I feel an inordinate sense of pride and true gratitude that this firm and I can give back to our community.

The not-so-great part of December 2020 is that there is no Christmas in Weston, no holiday bazaar, no community sing-alongs on the Green and no sleigh rides through town.

But wait, hold on for some more good news! I am so proud of Weston for rising to the Governor of Vermont's challenge to #LightUpVermont #VermontLightsTheWay #VTLightsTheWay! Vermont Governor Phil Scott has encouraged Vermonters to decorate their homes and businesses as part of a "Vermont Lights the Way" campaign during the pandemic. Weston is looking spectacular! Mary Mitchell Miller Real Estate's elves have strung thousands of twinkle lights at our building on Main Street and area businesses are looking especially bright and festive!

On behalf of my fellow MMMRE realtor associates Kathy Snyder and Chuck Sweetman, I wish you the best and hope you have a happy and healthy holiday, Christmas and New Year!

Holiday Bow Tying Tips
Our 2020 Christmas Wreath
Wreath from Glebe Mountain Gardens with Bow by Claudia
With the holidays coming up, I was recently looking for a YouTube video on how to craft a big, beautiful, wired-fabric ribbon for the wreath on our front door and I came across a few very helpful videos. Please enjoy!

Green Mountain Gourmet - Vermont Cheese Yule Log
Behold the humble cranberry!

Vermont Goat Cheese Yule Log

1 "log" of Vermont Creamery's Goat Cheese (any size)
1 12-oz. bag of fresh Ocean Spray cranberries
1/4 cup of Vermont maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary (stems removed, leaves loosely chopped)
1 tablespoon of fresh lemon zest
2-3 sprigs of fresh rosemary for garnish

  1. In a small medium pan, add the cranberries, maple syrup (both kinds), salt and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil and turn heat to simmer. Cover pot and simmer (rolling boil) for 15 -20 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and add lemon zest and chopped rosemary, stir well.
  3. Let mixture cool completely, preferably at least an hour in the refrigerator. This can be made ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to serve.
To Prepare:
  • If using a smaller log of goat cheese (4-5 ounces), spoon 1/3 - 1/2 cup of the cranberry relish on the bottom of a shallow serving bowl and spread out to form an oval. Place the cheese log on top and spoon the same amount of relish on top.
  • If using a larger log of goat cheese, use about 1/3 - 1/2 cup of the relish underneath the log and about 3/4 cup on top.
  • Decorate with sprigs of fresh rosemary.
  • Serve with crackers of your choice. I like flatbread with sea salt or peppered water crackers because they add crunch but not a lot of competing flavors.
* If don't have or cannot find Sugar Bob's Smoke Maple Syrup, you can omit it from the recipe. You'll lose a little sweetness and the smokiness this special syrup provides, but the recipe will still be delicious.

Note: (This recipe will yield more sauce than needed for the Vermont Yule Log recipe. The extra sauce can be reserved and used as a compote for other cheeses, as a sandwich spread, or to top vanilla ice cream (yes, even with the rosemary, it is delicious on ice cream!).

Local Real Estate Sales (2020)
2020 was an exceptional year for Mary Mitchell Miller Real Estate (MMMRE). Although we have a few more closings already scheduled for later this month and early 2021, our year-to-date statistics show:
  • MMMRE represented the sale or purchase of homes and land valued at more than $16.5 million dollars.
  • MMMRE is the #1 local real estate office for combined sales in the towns of Weston, Landgrove, Londonderry, Peru and Andover (number of units/properties sold) and #2 in terms of volume (total value). And, we're exceptionally proud of that #2 spot because we are competing with several much larger firms with more agents.
  • MMMRE represented sales in the towns of Andover, Chester, Dummerston, Jamaica, Landgrove, Londonderry, Ludlow, Newfane, Pawlet, Peru, Weston, Windham and Winhall.
Mary Mitchell Miller Real Estate and our brokers Claudia Harris, Kathy Snyder and Chuck Sweetman are pleased to have had the opportunity to work with our seller and buyer clients to welcome new owners to these Vermont properties in 2020.

Through these efforts, we guided 32 clients in the sale of their Vermont property and helped welcome 47 new homeowners to the area. We hope these new neighbors get involved in their new community, stay active and excited about Vermont and (of course!) keep in touch with us.

MMMRE sales, in chronological order, starting in January 2020 and continuing through December 2020. If you'd like to be on this list as a seller or home-buyer, contact:
