The New Jersey Department of Education requires all districts to provide parents and guardians with information on state and standardized assessments that will be administered this year. Below, please find the assessment windows for each tested grade level at Dorchester Elementary School.
Start Strong Assessment
This year, in addition to the spring New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA), students in 4th and 5th grade will also take the state-required Start Strong Assessment in October. The Start Strong Assessment, which consists of one ELA unit and one math unit per grade level, will serve as a replacement for the canceled Spring 2021 administration of the NJSLA.
NJSLA-Math and NJSLA-ELA
In the spring, students in grades 3-5 will take the NJSLA in both math and ELA. To view sample questions and other information about the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA), you can visit our State Assessment Resources for Parents webpage.
NJSLA-Science (Grade 5)
In addition to the NJSLA-Math and NJSLA-ELA, students in 5th grade will also take the NJSLA-Science. This computer-based assessment is aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in science. Sample questions can also be found at our webpage linked above.
