Village Observes Labor Day Holiday
In observance of the Labor Day Holiday, Village staff will be off on Monday, September 7, 2020. Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, September 8 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Please continue to contact staff through email and phone as there are no in-person contacts at this time. This is in compliance with social distancing guidelines, due to square footage at Village Hall and subsequent capacity limits. Visit this link for contact information if you have questions or comments for Village staff members.
New Face Cover Guidelines In Effect
COVID-19 cases throughout the state are increasing, and the governor has ordered new face cover safety guidelines that are now in effect for patrons at all Illinois restaurants, bars and food-service establishments. While customers can still enjoy indoor or outdoor service, face covers must be worn over the nose and mouth at all times when interacting with any staff members. This includes when customers are walking in to be seated, approached by staff members to place an order, when food or drinks are delivered to the table or cleared away, as well as when customers exit the establishment. New guidelines went into effect on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. Visit this link for additional information..
Public Meeting on Cuba Road Repaving Project
The Village is hosting a public meeting Wednesday, September 9, 2020, to provide information to residents about the Cuba Road repaving project planned for 2021. The meeting will take place outdoors at Buffalo Creek Brewing beginning at 5:30 p.m.; face covers are required, and social distancing should be practiced at all times. This is an open house format where members of the public can view project plans, ask questions, and learn how to stay informed regarding expected detours and traffic delays.

The Village recently rebid the project to include paving the entire length of Cuba Road. Bids were received in early August 2020 and the lowest will save the Village approximately $90,000 compared to March of 2020 bids. For more information, call Village Hall at 847-634-9440.
Proposed TIF District for
Lake Cook Road & Route 53
A new TIF District is being proposed for the Village's South Gateway.
The Village Board will be considering an ordinance to establish a new Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district for redevelopment of the South Gateway properties located at Lake Cook Road and Route 53 in Long Grove. The consultant for the TIF district reviewed the draft redevelopment plan with the Village Board at the August 25, 2020 meeting. At the Tuesday, September 8 Board meeting, a public hearing date will be announced for a date in November. The public will be given an opportunity to learn more about draft redevelopment plans and to provide input to the Board at this meeting.

A map of the proposed redevelopment area and more information about the public hearing can be found here.
RPC Bridge Remains Open, Repairs Planned
The RPC Bridge has been damaged by over-sized vehicles since its reopening.
The newly renovated Robert Parker Coffin Bridge sustained minor damages to its cover in a series of separate incidents that occurred since it reopened August 14, 2020. The damages resulted from vehicles that were over height and weight limits that drove on the bridge. Despite the incidents, the bridge remains open to cars and pedestrians. Repairs to the cover are planned and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

Village officials are currently looking at additional measures to protect this cherished, historical structure. An ad hoc committee made up of concerned citizens is now being formed that will provide recommendations to prevent future incidents.
Economic Development Commission Update
The Long Grove Economic Development Commission is fully engaged with local businesses as part of their mission to promote business retention, growth and success in Long Grove. All 100 businesses in the Village were contacted and many surveyed over the last few months to understand how the Village could assist them through the pandemic. Feedback is being used to plan future support efforts and initiatives. The EDC has hosted several informational webinars for Long Grove businesses, with experts sharing information on industry, labor and health topics that are focused on restoring and strengthening businesses in the wake of the downturn.

Other projects the Commission has been involved in include:
  • Playing a vital role in writing a grant under the Rebuild Illinois Program that could help to fund the Lake Michigan water connection to Long Grove. Grant awards have not yet been announced.
  • Establishing monthly meetings with Lake County Partners, a non-profit organization that supports economic growth in the region and provides updates on business opportunities.
