Civic Responsibility: Healthcare and Medicine
While factors outside practice do significantly affect health outcomes, knowing what role, if any, to play in civic life and policy issues can be challenging for healthcare learners and professionals. To what extent should those in healthcare get involved—and how can they balance personal, professional and organizational values?
In this discussion, panelists will share experiences, reflections and their responses to audience questions on navigating civic responsibility.

Featured Speakers:

  • Abdul El-Sayed, MD, DPhil, policymaker in residence at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and senior fellow for the FXB Center for Health & Human Rights.

  • Jasmine Zapata, MD, MPH, assistant professor, division of neonatology and newborn nursery, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

  • Moderator: Gregg Margolis, PhD, director of health policy fellowships and leadership programs, National Academy of Medicine.
