Shalom AKSE Congregants and Friends of AKSE:

The Parsha for this Shabbat is Shemini. In his sermon, Rabbi Saks describes how the concept of Betzelem Elokim (in the image of God), echoed in the Declaration of Independence, can help heal the world.

We welcome the month of Iyar with Shacharit services this Monday and Tuesday at 8 a.m. Those (virtually) present will be treated with Hallel led by Sam Romirowsky on Monday and by Scott Slomowitz on Tuesday.

We have Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) covered for you this week. Start off virtually with an All-Star Celebration hosted by the Jewish Federation on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. (there will be no Parsha & Pizza this week to avoid a conflict). Then Shacharit and Hallel on Thursday at 8 a.m. And a global celebration of Israel's 73rd birthday at 7 p.m.

That's not all! We also have a special "in-person" event Thursday afternoon. This will be the first "pop-up minyan" outside a member's home--the Home of Martin and Lorraine Cohn. Following Mincha at 3 p.m., there will be socially distanced Israeli folk dancing and a nosh to celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut. See below for details on all these events.

As a reminder, we are no longer using the P.O. Box address. Please send mail now to our 2412 Pennsylvania Ave. address. We will still receive mail addressed to the P.O. Box, but it will take longer to get to us.

Shabbat Shalom!

Alan
