header2-oct2020APPNA Fall Meeting

Like the 2020 summer meeting, APPNA's Fall Council Meeting also could not be held in person due to the COVID-19 situation and was therefore held virtually via ZOOM on October 10, 2020.

Various officers and committee chairs reported on the state of affairs of the association. The treasurer's report explained that while APPNA's financial situation continued to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the austerity measures implemented were successful in reducing the monthly operational expenses by approximately 50%.

The SWDRC and COVID-19 taskforce report explained that despite financial constraints for physicians across the country, APPNA's membership generously rose to the occasion and the COVID19  fundraising drive raised more than $1,000,000 for PPE and food distribution in North America and in Pakistan.

A debate then ensued on two motions presented by some members of the council. To curtail expenses and stem financial losses, the council passed a motion to stop any further 'forensic audits' of previous years. The organization however is to continue with routine annual audits. The council also debated and passed another motion to stop APPNA's involvement with the intervenor's appeal in the Bari lawsuit and leave the matter at the discretion of the court.

APPNA- Peds was founded in 2015, and since our inception we keep on growing every year with near 100 lifetime members and a large number of annual members.

During our annual meeting in July 2019, we had a well-attended general body meeting with robust participation by members. Speakers included Drs Naheed Usmani, Mobeen Rathore and Leah Greenspan-Hodar. Our keynote speaker was Dr Hodar who shared her experience improving neonatal services in low resource settings. During this meeting we decided to focus on tackling neonatal mortality in Pakistan which is one of the highest in the world. We facilitated screening of a movie about breast feeding to create awareness on this important topic at the summer meeting.

APPNA Peds has worked hard to roll out "Neonatal Resuscitation Program" of American Academy of Pediatrics/American Heart Association (NRP) across Pakistan in the past few years.

APPNA Alberta Chapter - Virtual APPNA Health Care Day

APPNE - Association of Pakistani Physicians of New England
One of APPNE's community projects is to vaccinate against influenza the most vulnerable members of our society (underserved and uninsured). The idea of free flu vaccination came when we received flu vaccines from APPNA as part of National Health care Day (NHCD) in 2018. Since then, with help from our Board Members and Volunteers, we have held multiple free flu clinics over the last 3 years and have vaccinated hundreds of adults and children. Once a vaccine against COVID-19 is developed, we will organize COVID vaccination clinics too.
