Autumn is here and we’re busy getting back to the business of arts support! Our leadership teams have quickly adapted to the “new” normal and have organized an informative, educational and entertaining roster of programs this season. I’m especially proud of our first FAB! Presents installment which focused on the state of our arts organizations during COVID-19 and our new Pop-Up series. Don’t miss our September 22 behind-the-scenes virtual studio tour of Stella Art Conservation and our annual Fall Luncheon on October 20 featuring Randy Cohen, vice president of research for Americas for the Arts.
Encouraging our momentum, I am pleased to unveil a revitalized FAB! logo, website and color palette which reflects our renewed energy, passion, trust and growth for the future. Our refreshed look and vibrant shades are symbolic of our increased engagement with more corporate partners and members, and of our commitment to communicate clearly and effectively by sharing relevant arts news that impacts our community. Most importantly, it underscores our stability and continued mission to support quality arts programming in Broward County.
Although these are trying times for all of us, FAB!’s commitment to sustaining creativity in our community has never been stronger. Our grantees have demonstrated tremendous resilience, optimism and courage as they have risen to meet the challenges COVID-19 has presented. We’re proud of them and of you for stepping-up as stellar arts ambassadors – being active, raising awareness and continuing to make FAB! a viable source of funding when it is needed most.

Please Welcome our newest Board Director
Angel Burgos
Angel Burgos is a native New Yorker and graduate of Colombia University School of International and Public Affairs with a master's degree in public administration. He earned his bachelor's degree at Hunter College and a certificate in higher education administration from George Mason University. From 1996-1998, Burgos served as a Jacob Javitz Congressional Fellow for Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), where he researched and analyzed social and economic policy issues. He was awarded the Senator Jacob K .Javitz Fellowship in 1996 and served as a Fulbright Scholar in U.S.-Germany International Education Administrators Program in 2010. Burgos is a graduate of the Leadership Florida Cornerstone Program, Class XXXVI.
Today, Angel resides in Fort Lauderdale with his husband, David Jobin, who is also a FAB member and the CEO/President of Our Fund Foundation. Currently, Angel Burgos is the Executive Director of MBA Program for the Chapman Graduate School of Business at Florida International University. Angel and David are thrilled to live in South Florida and are actively involved with a number of non profit organizations in South Florida. We applaud Angel's dedication to the Broward Arts Community.

THE REBUILDING POWER OF THE ARTS
The coronavirus is having a devastating impact on America's arts sector. Cancellations have taken place at virtually every arts organizations in the country and nearly two-thirds of the nation's artists are unemployed. Yet, the evidence also shows that when we invest in the arts, we are strengthening our communities socially, educationally, and economically. Join this lively session with national arts leader, Randy Cohen, VP of Research at Americans for the Arts, for an update on the (troubling) health of the arts sector as well as how the arts will be an essential tool in jump-starting Broward County's economy and unifying our community.

The Old Dillard Foundation (ODF) has been providing cultural programs rich in history, culture, and entertainment that highlights the talents of the people of the African Diaspora for over 25 years. This year in July, the ODF Board of Directors launched their flagship program, LIVE AT THE AAHH.
On the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, emerging, professional, and seasoned artists perform at the ODF Arts and Heritage House (AAHH). The music genres include Jazz, Blues, R&B, and Gospel. The current group of artists includes African American, Caribbean, Native American, Brazilian, Polynesian, Hispanic, European, and LGBTQ+. The “Dixie Tracks” have historically been a racial dividing line in Florida. The goal of LIVE AT THE AAHH is to erase the invisible lines which separate our communities.

CELEBRATING FAB members making major transitions!
Linda Carter has been a FAB member since 2014 and currently serves as an Officer on the FAB Board.
This summer she retired as President/CEO of the Community Foundation of Broward, after leading it for 23 years. Under her direction, the Foundation grew in size, stature and impact and is now one of the top 100 community foundations in the nation. During her tenure, the arts was identified as a critical issue that matters in Broward to create a vibrant arts community.
As a part of a national search effort, the Community Foundation hired Jennifer O'Flannery Anderson, Ph.D. formerly of NSU as its next President/CEO. Jennifer brings two decades of leadership experience in Broward to the Foundation. Jennifer has been an active FAB member, serving on FAB's Corporate member committee. We wish the very best to two FAB members as they embark on their next adventure.
