Adopt a Tree Program
The Medina County Historical Society is proud to announce that after a year of fundraising, external and internal restoration, and lots of loving care, the McDowell-Phillips House is coming along nicely. Paint and paper are making her emerge as the lovely lady she has been for the past 130 years.

Now that the house itself is well under way, it's time to look to her yard and to begin landscaping. With the guidance of Beth Schnabel of the Soil and Water Conservation District, the society is hoping to dress up the grounds to recreate the historic beauty of the property.

In order to produce a living screen along the north side of the property bordering Blake Avenue, they would like to plant 20 five-foot tall Blue Point Junipers and 10 Red Bud trees. Both species are fast growing, maintenance free, and deer resistant. Each tree would cost approximately $100. On the advice of tree planting experts, they hope to plant the Junipers this October and the Red Buds in the spring.

Please consider adopting a tree; imagine driving past that wonderful property and knowing that you contributed to its beauty. To adopt one or more trees, please send a check for $100 per tree designated Adopt a Tree and made out to MCHS; to Medina County Historical Society, ATTN: Adopt a Tree, 206 N. Elmwood St., Medina, OH 44256.
If you have questions, call 330-722-1341 or email [email protected] - the John Smart House museum is closed because of the pandemic, but volunteers check the phone and email regularly and will return your call.
