It is not uncommon for the families of our guests, as well as the guests themselves, to remark how peaceful and welcoming Clarehouse feels upon entering or how lovely the grounds are that surround our home. Keeping our home and gardens looking beautiful is a collective effort by our staff and volunteers. Recently, our part-time maintenance supervisor, Charlie Mader, and longtime volunteer, Ron Jackson, worked together to repair our west fountain in the butterfly garden. The fountain is running well once again and this area continues to provide a peaceful place to enjoy these incredible fall days.

As we continually strive to be good stewards of what has been entrusted to us, we try to anticipate and plan for upcoming maintenance needs. As the building ages, there has been an increase in areas that need repair and upkeep. The Operations Committee oversees major maintenance issues. Our HVAC system requires constant attention, and with 18 heat pumps nearing the end of their useful life, we are gradually replacing them. The committee is currently working to secure bids for the repair of the wood rot on the outdoor decks and is also managing the repair of the collapsing retaining wall at the east end of the property. Despite the maintenance challenges, providing beautiful surroundings is important to us. It is our privilege to offer a loving, as well as beautiful, ‘home away from home’ for our guests and families. As always, you are invited to enjoy Clarehouse as well by walking the labyrinth, relaxing in the chapel or strolling through the gardens.
