Village Holiday Closures and Christmas Tree Disposal
The Village of Long Grove wishes all residents a safe and happy holiday season! All Village departments will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday on Thursday, December 23 and Friday, December 24. Village operations will resume on Monday, December 27 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Village Hall will also be closed on Friday, December 31 for New Years and will reopen for normal business on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Waste Management will pick up Christmas trees on regular waste pickup days during the first two weeks of January (January 3 - 14, 2022). All trees must be clean, and should not include tags, lights or tinsel. Trees longer than 6 feet should be cut in half. Visit this link for information on recycling tree lights and properly disposing of other holiday items. Regular weekly pickup schedules will not be affected by the Christmas or New Year's holidays.
Preserving Greenspaces Within Route 53 Corridor
The Village has established a budget of $40,000 in support of efforts to protect greenspaces along the Route 53 corridor, and has approved a $10,000 request from the Midwest Sustainability Group (MSG) for related activities. A task force is currently reviewing various ways to manage the corridor lands, which were to be used to build a proposed tollway joining Route 53 with Route 120 before the project was abandoned. MSG is engaging various stakeholders and corridor municipalities to ensure the protection of environmentally sensitive areas, and to keep the corridor non-motorized with outdoor amenities such as trails, parks and community gardens. Learn more about the project here.

Home Fire Safety Reminders
Candles can present fire hazards when burned outdoors on decks and patios, as well as inside your home. Protect you and your family from the dangers of using candles this holiday season with the following safety tips:

  • Keep burning candles within sight at all times.
  • Remember to leave a 1-foot circle of safety around any burning candle.
  • Do not leave children or pets unattended in a room with an open flame candle.
  • Always extinguish candles before leaving the home. When you go out, blow it out!
