Uniquely Central Oregon Valentine's Day Ideas
You know that saying, "Valentine's Day is for Lovers?" Maybe Hallmark and the chocolate industry are pushing that theory, but we say it's just another reason to go out and treat yourself (and your loved ones too!) For those of you who need an "excuse" to pamper yourself or jump out of your comfort zone for some unique fun, we've got you covered!

This year, Valentine's Day falls on a Friday, which is excellent... if you made dinner reservations months ago. If you weren't that ahead of the game, sometimes you can get lucky with last-minute cancellations.

Some popular, romantic restaurants in Central Oregon include Zydeco , Bos Taurus , Trattoria Sbandati , Ariana , Madaline's Grill , Oishi ... the list goes on and on.

If you're looking for some different ideas, though, try these out.
1) A night time cross country ski or snowshoe to a warming hut. Full moon outings are popular out on the snow-covered trails. Unfortunately, we will have missed the last full moon on Feb. 8., but don't fret! Valentine's day will be a Half Moon, so add a headlamp, and you are set.

One of our favorite treks is the 1.5 mile trip to the warming shelter at Virginia Meissner Sno-Park, 14 miles west of Bend. Don't forget to bring your snacks and beverages to enjoy around the wood stove in the shelter.

Cross Country Ski/Snow Shoes are available for rent at most outdoor stores, including Sunnyside Sports and Powderhouse in Bend. Half-day rentals run from $11-$20.

(By the way, the February full moon is when the annual Luminaria event takes place at Virginia Meissner. Make sure to experience it next year if you get the opportunity.)
2) Like the idea of getting outside with your Valentine, but want someone else to take charge and do the planning and guiding? Look no further than Wanderlust Tours Valentine's Weekend: Romance on The Snow .

From their website, "Journey through an old-growth forest to a bonfire crackling at the center of a hand-carved snow amphitheater! Spend the night relaxing around the fire while enjoying desserts and hot drinks. Your naturalist guides will share interpretation about the forest and its inhabitants, Bend's natural and cultural history, and the stunning night sky!"

Count us in!
3) Did you know that beer isn't just for drinking anymore? So you're saying you've never tried soaking your whole body in a tub of microbrew beer?

For a truly unique experience, try Hop in the Spa , located in downtown Sisters. From their website, " Hop In The Spa Microbrew Soaks use a combination of hops, herbs, minerals, and other proprietary ingredients. These ingredients, along with variable water temperatures, provide the Hop HydroTherapy experience that only our customers enjoy. This experience is unique at Hop In The Spa as it is designed to provide a relaxing therapeutic treatment unlike any other in the world."

Sounds interesting, but if you're one of those people who believe that beer really is just for drinking, you're in luck. We've got plenty of amazing, more traditional spa venues in Central Oregon. To name a few, Jinsei , Anjou , Spa W , and numerous resorts in the area.

Included is a complimentary rose for concert-goers and a custom treat from Goody's Chocolates (who doesn't like that?!)
5) Last but not least... how about a night at home?

Remember, we've got the only remaining Blockbuster on Earth or check here to see if you drive past a Redbox .

Whole Foods and Market of Choice have amazing selections of high quality, prepared foods.

Can't wait to change into your pajamas as soon as you open your front door? Don't forget that P izza Mondo delivers!

No matter how you decide to spend the day, remember to stop and appreciate the good things around you. Your Valentine's Day may look different than your neighbor, your co-worker, or your friend's day, but find the goodness and ENJOY!
