November we celebrated our Baltimore MEDWeek and Supplier Diversity Inclusion Week. I want to thank everyone who participated as speakers, moderators, event partners, staff and attendees. Transitioning our annual event from a face to face experience to virtual was challenging. Based on the feedback received our Virtual MEDWeek activities were a success. Like many of you our team has embraced the new and innovated approaches to engaging and informing. Please let us know how we are doing.

November has also begun the transition in leadership at both the national and local levels of government. With the election of Mayor Elect Brandon Scott we expect our local community to see a renewed focus on support for minority and locally owned businesses. In his transition the Mayor-Elect has identified Business, Workforce and Neighborhood Development as one of his priorities. We encourage our stakeholders to engage the co-chairs of the committee Shelonda Stokes, President of Downtown Partnership of Baltimore and Gerald Jackson, Assistant Business Manager for the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local Union 486.
In Washington we will be watching the Biden administration as it executes its transition. My colleague Anthony Robinson has been tracking closely the priorities articulated by President Elect Biden:
- Establishing a small-business trust fund: $60 billion in funds for smaller lenders and community based financial institutions.
- Reserving half of new PPP funds for businesses small businesses with 50 employees or less
- Restricting PPP amounts to no more than lost revenue
- Guaranteeing that every small business will get relief, rather than capping the fund
- Increase funding for MBDA and provide lending authority.
We will keep you informed and encourage your participation in the transition.
