Over 30 Volunteers Attend the Recent Election De-Brief

On May 16, 2019 Glenna Sloan, Elections Coordinator and Lore Breitmeyer Jones, Deputy Chair, discussed the May 4 th Elections in Montgomery County. According to Lore more than 21 precinct chairs who participated in Get Out the Vote (GOTV) activities related to the Conroe ISD School Bond Referendum. There were also 6 polling places that were staffed with Poll Watchers, and many polling locations had Democratic Clerks or Alternate Judges working the polls. While the CISD bond issue did not pass, it is clear that the precinct chairs are beginning to have teams and that the teams are able to improve our success rates at the polls.
Glenna reported that Election Central handled this election in a totally different manner than previous elections, making it doubly important that "we have well trained election judges and clerks prepared to help for the next election." She will be continuing her efforts to recruit and train poll workers to represent us inside the polls and the Party will continue to recruit and train volunteers to be present outside the polling locations and as Poll Watchers inside the polls.
Both Lore and Glenna expressed their appreciation to all the precinct chairs, poll workers and volunteers. Stay tuned to this newsletter for future training opportunities.
Wear Orange for Gun Safety Action Day

The Spring and The Woodlands local groups of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Students Demand Action will be hosting a community day of action at Northshore Park, 2505 Lake Woodlands Dr. The Woodlands, TX 77381 on June 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. Come out and enjoy activities and crafts for the kids, participate in our community blood drive, view unique artwork, and indulge in a snow-cone. This year, we’re bringing our community together with neighbors, students, lawmakers, law enforcement and community leaders to Wear Orange for a fun family event. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood center will be at the event from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Why orange?
Orange is the color that Hadiya Pendleton’s friends wore in her honor when she was shot and killed in Chicago at the age of 15 — just one week after performing at President Obama’s 2nd inaugural parade in 2013. After her death, they asked us to stand up, speak out, and Wear Orange to raise awareness about gun violence.

Teaching Tuesdays are starting, lets learn something!

“Teaching Tuesdays” is a new program being developed at Montgomery County Democratic Headquarters in response to interest that has been expressed by the Headquarters Volunteers. These classes will concentrate on how the county party operates, the election cycle, other governmental jurisdictions within the county, and how they can support precinct chairs among other things. The programs are open to all members with the same program being offered twice per day. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 12:30 pm to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 pm.

Amy Lewis will teach twice on Tuesday, June 4, on "Municipalities in Montgomery County". She will cover the kinds of cities there are within Montgomery County, their powers, and how to become involved.

On June 11, Natalie Ward will present VAN Basics - "Creating Usable Lists from VAN". She will also show you how to produce mailing labels for mailings to the Democrats in our precincts. Bring your laptops and a notepad for copious notes.
Future Teaching Tuesdays will include "How to engage with people with whom you may disagree", "How to build a team in your precinct", "The county party structure and how it works", "brushing up your skills in Word, Power Point, and Excel", “The election cycle”, and other repeat topics such as “How to be a poll watcher” and “Block walking 101”.
Lawrence Says Goodby

Harry Adams and Margie Kremer present an appreciation gift to Lawrence Fischer on his last day at headquarters for this school term. Lawrence has been a faithful Wednesday morning volunteer since January and may be back again when school starts in September. He enjoyed talking politics, stuffing block walking bags for precinct chairs, making note pads, shredding documents and doing anything else the other volunteers were busy doing on Wednesdays. They all hope he will come back and work with us again.
Help!

Do you have a yard as big as Texas? A garage or storage shed that is barely used? Or a spot in your backyard where an innocuous Rubbermaid storage shed would not violate any sacred deed restrictions?  If so, we need you!
The Montgomery County Democratic Party has taken a pledge to try in every way possible to support our local candidates. Running for any office is a costly proposition and anything we can do to help defray costs for them is what we are all about.
Purchasing yard signs is one of the first expenses a candidate faces and about half the cost of a yard sign is the wire stake. We have been saving the wire stakes for future candidates, but they are multiplying in our back office and we need a better place to keep them. Here’s a picture of most of the stash that we currently have.
If you can help us store these, please call us at 936-242-3376 or send us an email at mcdpoffice@gmail.com . We really need help!

THANK YOU for issuing the newsletter with legible (sized) print. I had despaired when an earlier series of newsletters came in tiny print and I was nowhere near a printer that could enlarge it!
Oh, btw, would you mind including a “donate” link in the letters? I’d like to become a sustaining member.
Ellen Benodin

Note to Ellen: We are planning on including a donate button in the Newsletter as soon as we figure out how to do it. In the mean time go the the Website and use that one. Thanks for your input.

  VOTER ALERT!
CHECK YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION STATUS!!

In this time of aggressive voter purges, internet hacking, and various forms of voter suppression, it is extremely important to confirm that your registration status is current and active. Texas is among the states that enforces voter suspension and purging of "inactive" or voters. In Montgomery County alone, there are over 44,000 voter files which have been marked for suspension and eventual purging. For various reasons you may have had your registration suspended. Reasons may include moving without updating your information, not voting in the previous 2 elections, or having mail returned as undeliverable to the Elections administration.

Don't miss out on your right to vote. You may use these links to check your voter registration status to confirm you are up-to-date, to be sure you have the required form(s) of ID to cast your ballot, to find your precinct # and voting locations as well as a SAMPLE BALLOT for your precinct.
