Market Updates
-----------------
Week by week, summer sweets keep rolling in. Cantaloupe, watermelon, nectarines and pluots can be found at Maryhill Fruit Company and Kiyokawa Family Orchards, as well as sweet corn at Pablo Munoz Farms and Sun Gold Farm. Also, a rare mid-season harvest of baby Hood strawberries are making an appearance at Happy Harvest Farm this weekend. There are simply so many Pacific NW treasures available, it is hard to know where to start, but fortunately you don't have to pick only one!

Many customers have been asking themselves what they can do to address racial disparities prevalent in our society today. Our BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color) community members have faced historic, systemic barriers from accessing generational wealth, and after overcoming the hurdles of starting an enterprise, their businesses are often less frequented by white shoppers. At the farmers market, a great way to celebrate and support our BIPOC community members is by shopping at their businesses.
This week we want to highlight one of our BIPOC business owners Neil Anderson. Neil founded No Mess Chef to create truly nutritious bone broth, slowly cooked to preserve its health benefits. No Mess Chef uses locally sourced, pasture-raised meats to produce the highest quality line of uniquely flavored bone broths like their classic, OTG (Orange, Turmeric, Ginger). As well, they work directly with small scale farmers to source ingredients for their tomato and tomato roasted red pepper Soupor Sauce. Pay Neil a visit this weekend as load up on all of the wonderful products available.
Back this week: Ken and June's Hazelnuts, Nature's Best Oregon Honey, Westward Whiskey

Off this week: East Fork Cultivars, Freeland Spirits, Nature's Wild Harvest, Northwest Cactus and Succulents, Orange and Blossom, Roundhouse Foods, Sacred Summit Herbal Elixirs and Chocolate and The Fermentista.

Thank you for your continued support of the farmers market during this time! Sending just one member from your household and observing our safety guidelines is what supports us to stay safe and stay open. We look forward to seeing you from afar at the market this weekend!
Recipe of the Week: Summer Berry Crisp
-------------
1 1/2 cups flour
4 tablespoons poppy seeds
1 cup rolled oats, uncooked
1 cup cane sugar
1/2 teaspoon fine-grain sea salt
2/3 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon cornstarch (or rice flour)
1/3 cup cane sugar

4 1/2 cup of berries / fruit - mix of ripe, pitted cherries, strawberries, blackberries, etc.

1/4 cup port wine

Preheat the oven to 375F / 190 C degrees with a rack in the middle of the oven. Butter an 8-inch / 20-cm square baking dish, or equivalent.

To make the crumble, mix together the flour, poppy seeds, oats, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Use a fork to stir in the melted butter. Divide the mixture into three portions and use your hands to form three patties. Place the patties in the bowl and freeze for at least 10 minutes, or until you're ready to bake.

Make the filling by whisking together the cornstarch and sugar in a large bowl. Add the fruit and toss until evenly coated. Wait 3 minutes, add the wine, and toss again. Transfer the filling to the prepared baking dish.

Remove the topping from the freezer and crumble it over the filling, making sure you have both big and small pieces.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until the topping is deeply golden and the fruit juices are vigorously bubbling. Let cool a little before serving, 20 to 30 minutes.

Serves 8 to 10.
