The Long Shadow
Documentary Viewing
Wednesday,
February 24th, 7 PM
Q & A
In collaboration with 30 libraries in our area, the Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library District is offering a week-long screening of the documentary The Long Shadow (PBS) followed by a Q&A with its director, Frances Causey.
Friday, February 19 - Friday, February 26, view The Long Shadow documentary HERE. No need to register to view the film.
Register to "attend" the Q&A on Wednesday, February 24 at 7 PM HERE. You must register for the Zoom Q & A.
The Long Shadow follows former CNN Senior Producer, TED contributor, and Emmy-Award Winning Director Frances Causey as she traces her family’s legacy of white privilege, placing it in the context of the history of anti-black racism in the United States that began with slavery and continues to impact our society today.
Frances Causey and Producer Sally Holst passionately seek the hidden truth and the untold stories of how America—guided by the South’s powerful political influence—steadily, deliberately and at times secretly, established white privilege in our institutions, laws, culture and economy.
Fulfilling our mission to promote diversity, inspire curiosity and creativity, support inquiry, and build community.

IL Economic Development Project for DeKalb, IL
|
|
|
|
|
The Illinois’ Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, DeKalb Economic Development Council and Intersect Illinois, nominated Facebook, Inc. to Trade and Industry Development Magazine dedicated to site selection for a CiCi Award as a result of their coordinated efforts to bring the newest data center to DeKalb.
Following a review of multiple sites in other states and the comprehensive package submitted on behalf of the DeKalb location, Facebook chose Illinois for its new 900,000-square-foot data center, its 12th in the United States. The $800 million, Facebook DeKalb Data Center will be supported by 100% renewable energy, among the most advanced energy efficient data center facilities in the world with plans to use 80% less water than the average data center, and will pursue LEED Gold certification.
The project will bring at least 100 permanent jobs to DeKalb County, in addition to 1,200 construction jobs dedicated to this project. Over the last year, Illinois has attracted more than $2.2 billion in data center projects, including Facebook, due to the state’s robust fiber optic network, energy reliability and cost, renewable resources, low risk for natural disasters, strong and educated talent pool and supportive government.
