As I am finishing up my first four years on the Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners, I look forward to the next four years. This past year has been very difficult; however, COVID-19 is a temporary problem that we look forward to overcoming in early 2021 with a new vaccine and with help from our citizens by wearing a mask, social distancing, washing hands and keeping mass gatherings to very small numbers. Therefore, we need to look past that temporary issue that has held our attention for most of 2020 and focus on moving forward. We must get our businesses open, get back to building airplanes and get our students back in school.
We will continue to support our community through our many departments that help people. We will continue to hold the line on taxes; however, I believe our spending will increase due to the demands of COVID-19 throughout 2021. We have a great staff that is proactive and will give great and timely advice to the Commissioners. We will welcome a new member to the Commission and will help her in the transition.
I will continue to listen and seek advice from the community and through my Citizens Advisory Board. I know the pandemic has slowed down our ability to completely follow our Strategic Plan and we will get back to those issues as we move forward.
It is an honor to serve District 3 and I look forward to the great things our community can do as we move forward. I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
David Dennis
Commissioner- District 3
