CLAS supports 17 students with FLAS Fellowships in AY21-22

With support from its US Department of Education Title VI grant, the Center for Latin American Studies is supporting eleven undergraduate students and six graduate students with Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships for Academic Year 2021-2022. Academic Year FLAS fellows receive tuition support and a stipend to focus on language study in Ohio State's Portuguese and Quechua programs.

Two FLAS fellows will be featured each week in our newsletter and on our website.

New Resource for K-12 Teachers

With support from a CLAS Curriculum Development Grant, graduate student Anabella Petronsi of the OSU School of Music has created a website dedicated to Argentine music for open-access use by K-12 teachers.

The website's modules use engaging songs such as Aserrín, aserrán and Cucú, cantaba la rana to help teachers develop lesson plans on Argentine music, while incorporating elements of Latin American geography and culture into the curriculum.

AATSP Webinar on Afro-Latino Culture

The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), in celebration of National Teach Spanish Week (Sept. 26 - Oct. 3), invites you to its webinar "Incorporating Afro-Latino Culture in Spanish and Portuguese Classrooms".
