A Message
from MAYOR MARGOT GARANT
It’s hard to imagine that just a year ago, we were in the full, unknowing impacts of a worldwide pandemic. Despite the constant hurdles, the year 2021 has seemingly flown by at such a rapid pace that it seemed to me we were just celebrating the Fourth of July!!

But I want to pause to give thanks to all those who have served this beautiful community and thank all the employees of our Village, our fire department, our first responders, the ambulance company, hospital staff, our school teachers and administrative staff, our parents, our children our seniors and all those who volunteer - WE DID IT, and we did it TOGETHER.

Let’s embrace 2022 with open arms of new opportunity, renewed brother and sisterhood, and continue our great work together as a community to keep our home beautiful, safe, and my favorite destination for a day - or a lifetime!

Merry Christmas and Health and Happiness in 2022!!!
Margot Garant

TOYS FOR TOTS
Creating Christmas Magic!
The spirit of giving is in the air, and Port Jefferson residents have been plentiful. On behalf of the Long Island Village Clerks and Treasurers Association, we would like to thank all of you who donated toys and gifts to the Toys for Tots program. Your kind donations will bring Christmas magic to many children who need it most. The Toys for Tots program is sponsored by the US Marine Corps and delivers toys to less fortunate children at Christmas. Thank you for your generous donations! There is no greater joy than knowing that you have made someone's holiday wish come true!
DICKENS FESTIVAL WAS A HUGE SUCCESS
It was a world of spectacle and performance, of magic and wonder.

Christmas lights danced, glittered, and sparkled throughout the Village at the 25th anniversary Dickens Festival. It was a "Bah, humbug!" free event that delighted all who attended. The festival had various events, including Christmas caroling, ice skating, carriage rides, parades, performances, and the Tree Lighting at Village Hall. A large crowd gathered at the tree lighting to hear remarks from community leaders and then watch as the tree was lit.

Friends and families gathered for the traditional Yuletide celebrations starting with Residents night. The evening was filled with ice skating, hot cocoa and cookies, holiday music, and a special visit with Santa.

The weekend proceeded with a storybook scene. The streets were alive with Victorian characters singing, dancing, and laughing all around. There were performances throughout the Village. Ice skating continued, and horse-drawn carriage rides throughout town, giving people a glimpse into yesteryear. Santas workshop was the place where the children could live the Christmas magic!
"There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour." - Charles Dickens.

A lot of computer users like to have multiple programs open at once. You can use the split screen feature to do a multitude of things. You can compare two documents or view two websites simultaneously. You can have a spreadsheet open on the left while your word processing program is available on the right. You can even browse your favorite social network while watching YouTube videos or doing some shopping while checking your emails. The possibilities go on and on!
Our tech tip shows you how to split your screen between two windows. We hope this makes your computing a little easier!
For Windows:
1. Select a window you want to split your screen with
Click on the window you want to take up a portion of the screen. Drag the window to the left or right, depending on which side you want it to be positioned.
2. Select a second window

3. Drag the divider to your preference
If you want one window to be bigger/smaller than the other. Just click on the thin dividing line between the two windows and drag it either left or right to match your needs.

NAN GUZZETTA
A life well lived
Nan Guzzetta, a longtime resident and owner of the Antique Costume & Prop Rental on Main Street who passed this year at 88 years young, didn't just run a costume shop in Port Jefferson. She was a treasure in our Village. Nan had a gift for making everyone she came in contact with feel welcome. She was an integral part of the fabric in this Village. Nan was the heart and soul at every historical reenactment. Her love of history — and her ability to bring historical figures to life — was extraordinary.

Meet our team. Their stories are inspiring, and they provide excellent service to all who live here and visit. We will highlight a new professional every month and introduce you to the most amazing and talented individuals that make Port Jefferson Village so special. These are people who bring their experience and dedication every single day.  When they say it takes a Village, they’re talking about the people of Port Jefferson Village!
MEET DAVE MELIOUS
Have you ever met one of those guys that just makes you feel so comfortable from the minute you meet him? We have someone exactly like that that we want to make sure that you know about. He is the guardian of some of our Village's most valuable assets. Dave Melious is a 40-year Port Jefferson resident and the Director of the Parks Department. He plans, assigns, and supervises grounds maintenance activities at Village parks, beaches, marinas, and other recreational facilities. So when you stroll around our beautiful Village, Dave is the one that has made sure that it is gorgeous, functional, and safe.

Dave and his team are in charge of the plantings and landscaping of all Village parks, including the ball field, Harborfront park, and Rocketship park. They also do all of the seasonal decorating for holidays, especially Christmas and Paint Port Pink.

His co-workers describe him as being exceedingly pro-active, an extremely hard worker, and often getting the job done before he is even asked. He is one of those guys that goes above and beyond to help anyone out, whether it is his job or not. When we asked Dave about the best things about his career, he responded, "The gratification I get when projects are completed and the joy the residents get because of my department's hard work."

Dave is one of the good ones! He is a family man "with two children that are my world," says Dave. His daughter is 24, and his son is 22. "The best part of Port Jeff is coming down in the nice weather to enjoy the waterfront and beaches. Boating and fishing are my passion, and this is the perfect place to do it!"
We are grateful to have a man like Dave as one of the guardians of our Village. He has great vision, the knowledge of his job is astounding, he is fiscally responsible but most of all he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet! So we hope you will get to meet him. But if you don't, there is evidence all around the Village that he has been there and made things better!

SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING
Protecting our streets and parks is a top priority. Our 'See Something - Say Something' campaign is designed to make you a part of the solution. Signs are being posted throughout Main Street, in both uptown and downtown areas. The phone number of the supervising Code Officer is prominently displayed on each sign. We encourage residents to report any suspicious activity or other hazards. If you see something unusual or witness any concerning behavior, call (631) 774-0066. The Code Enforcement Bureau will secure the scene immediately, investigate the situation and work with SCPD. Our Code officers have a well-established relationship with SCPD. Many of them are retired, active or auxiliary officers. We also have security cameras on our streets. SCPD’s real-time crime center is tied into our camera system and can monitor them when necessary. All crimes are reported to Suffolk County Police. It will take all of us to be proactive and diligent to continue with the good work that has already been established.
