Dear Friends,
I want to thank all my friends who joined me at last week's "Opening Reception" at the Court House Cultural Center and Gallery in Stuart FL.
The exhibition, "Dorothy Gillespie: Works in Living Color", explores the multi-faceted work of Dorothy Gillespie with over 50 pieces spanning eight decades of her prolific career. Included in the show is a 1939 College Art School project, canvas paintings from 1950's -1970's, and her unique and colorful "painted sculptures". (See below)
Also in the exhibition are two small paper abstracts my mother did in her late eighties, when she could no longer handle creating large works in metal. These small paper abstracts, with a black background, still display the bold colors and dynamic forms of her signature style. (See below)
The artwork displayed in the two galleries were selected from the Dorothy M. Gillespie Foundation Collection and the Private Collection from Beth and Gary Israel.
If you were unable to attend the opening, the exhibition ends on April 15th.
I look forward to my next visit to Stuart on March 16th when I will give a talk about my mother and her art.
