CONGRATULATIONS
Franco Montalto, PhD, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, has been announced as a 2021-22 Provost Fellow. Professor Montalto’s project will focus on providing leadership for the campus-wide programming of Climate Year and connecting Climate Year to ongoing initiatives such as The Environmental Collaboratory.
Miguel Pando, PhD, associate professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, is co-PI on a collaborative research grant funded by the Peruvian research agency CONCYTEC PERU, “WasiTek.” The aim of this three-year research project is to develop a 3D printing system for earthen materials similar to adobe materials that do not use Portland cement, but rather natural biopolymers produced from industrial waste.
The Construction Management program, which underwent a reaccreditation visit this week, has been recommended for a full six-year reaccreditation. The program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) and visits occur every six years. ACCE is led by a board of trustees that represents both academia and the construction industry. The visiting team is comprised of both construction management faculty, as well as industry representatives. After reviewing the program’s submitted self-study, the team traveled to campus to visit with faculty, University staff, and students. The visiting team was impressed with the program and noted major strengths of dedicated teaching faculty, active engagement with industry, and collaboration with other disciplines on campus. Special thanks to Christine Fiori PhD, the construction management faculty, and Jessica Cruz for a successful and smooth reaccreditation process.
