Find Rest
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
By this time, schools have wrapped up the 2021-2022 school year. Some are planning for Vacation Bible School and others getting ready for summer camp. Still others? A bit of rest and relaxation. I pray that all of the Northern Illinois District Ordained, Commissioned, Lay Leaders, and Volunteer Workers will take some time to rest.
It has been a very busy year of educating, meetings, planning, and the list goes on. But ... the greatest gift has been to receive and then share the love of Jesus in everything that was done. That love looked like a simple smile along the way, a hug given, a listening ear, or shoulder to cry on. It looked like a person stepping up to help in a time of need or waiting patiently; a word of forgiveness given or received.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 11, “ ... take my yoke upon you and learn from me ... you will find rest for your souls. ... For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
When that last bit of energy is depleted and you don’t think you can go on, remember that God holds you and will give you the strength. The burdens, including your sin and sorrow, Jesus bore, He bore out of love for each of us. Rest this summer in the assurance that you are held in the loving arms of Christ! By His wounds we are healed.
As we place our faith and trust in God (no matter the stresses we face), we can all be thankful that God holds us in the palm of His hand and gives us what He knows is best for us. So, when trials come, step back and know God’s plan is perfect. Stay in the Word. Take care of yourself to be Well. Use your words and life as a Witness.
Have a wonderful and restful summer!

Giving Thanks for Lutheran Education: Lord of Glory Lutheran Church, Grayslake/Gloryland Preschool
At the mention of the popular Cheers sitcom, who starts to hum the theme song? How true are these lyrics?
“Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came.”
That is the joy I experience every time I visit Gloryland Preschool! All of the precious little ones know my name, and their smiles are huge when they see me. The life of a preschooler is active, and I provide a calming presence when I visit. I never know if my friends want to pet my head, scratch my chin, or give me a hug. I never know if they're having a good day or a rough day, but it doesn't matter to me. Just spending time with them makes my tail wag! And isn't that how we can be a good friend? In the book of Proverbs, we are told that "A friend loves at all times." The staff at Gloryland shares the love of Jesus with these children every day, and I am humbled to be a part of their preschool experience.

Administrators – Take Note
Following the Back-to-School Worship and Keynote event on August 10, 2022, the NID staff will meet with all new teachers who have come into the District for the coming school year. Each teacher that we have been informed of will receive an invitation to stay after the morning, enjoy lunch hosted by the Education Department, and then learn all about the NID from the staff. It is important that the teachers join us for this. New administrators will have a separate New Worker event with the new NID pastors in September.

National Lutheran Schools Accreditation
Thanks be to God for all of the NID schools that completed their NLSA reaccreditation process this year. Much time and effort is put into reviewing, updating, changing, and visioning for these schools.
I thank our NLSA Consultant/Commissioner, Keith Wilharm, for all of his efforts to assist the schools throughout the process. What a blessing to have someone so dedicated and knowledgeable.
Thanks also go out to the faithful members of the District Accreditation Commission who are responsible for reviewing all reports and documentation. That is a lot of work and takes much of their time as they serve voluntarily. Well done.
Thank you to all of the men and women who willingly served on visit teams this year. This process is not possible without them. To God be the glory for all workers in the NID!

|
|
|
The LCMS School Theme for the 2022-2023 school year is ‘Making Disciples for Life.’ This theme is based on Matthew 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
