See what our athletes have been up to this month!
This past month has been a busy one for both athletes and coaches! The first session of the new Chicago Park District’s intramural leagues for our athletes has ended, and the second session is about to start. About 1,200 coaches and athletes from across the city participated weekly for training and skill-building for either soccer or volleyball. Special Children’s Charities provided transportation, uniforms, lunch, and cost of the venue rental.
Powerlifting, one of our most popular events, was held on February 19, and it was great to see how all of our athletes’ training paid off! We saw several personal bests in squat, bench press, and deadlift attempts. Ed Doby of Eckhart Park was this year’s recipient of the Keith Tyler Spirit Award, and it was well-deserved!
CPS soccer competitions wrapped up in February with individual skills competitions and team competitions. Gold medal winners advance to the State Summer Games in Bloomington in June.
State Basketball took place this month, and approximately 200 of our athletes and coaches were in Bloomington, IL for some tough competition and a great time. The Chicago Park District hosted a dinner and dance, supported by Special Children’s Charities. Athletes were beyond excited to get back on the dance floor!
The 54th Annual Spring Games are coming soon. We will have approximately 1,500 athletes competing in track and field events. Opening Ceremonies will be on May 5, and the competition will be held May 9–11 at Eckersall Stadium.
