When we talk about capturing a kid's heart, what does this mean? How do we know when we have succeeded? More importantly, how do we know when the student has succeeded? When we capture a kid’s heart, we get to see them engaged in their passion.
Kindergarten gets to demonstrate gratitude with their Thanksgiving Feast. Families bring in different dishes to share with others. Students perform songs for the families which are focused on gratitude. Fourth grade has their Medieval Fest. Students demonstrate their learning by dressing as knights. Creating a classroom castle. Students dress up and perform skits. They bake at home with their family and bring in their baked goods, pertinent to the era. Seventh grade has their Dinosaur Dig. They spend time excavating dig boxes for bones, fossils, and relics. They chart, tag and record what they find. It all gets taken back into the classroom to get cleaned and assembled. All the dinosaurs get put on display in the lobby for all the students to see. It culminates with our Night at the Museum. A time for students to walk their parents through our ‘museum’ and show off all their work.
This is only the beginning of what students get to experience while a student at Aspen View Academy. It is obvious that we get to see students engaged in their passion day in and day out. But when we capture our students' passion and heart, we also capture the passion and hearts of others. Our teachers. Our parents. Our entire Aspen View Academy community.
