June 9 Board Meeting
The San Mateo Union High School District Board of Trustees invites you to attend a Board Meeting on Thursday, June 9. The closed session portion of the board meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Open Session will begin at 7 p.m. via Zoom.
 
The Board Meeting will include presentations on the following topics of community interest:

  • Mental Health Update
  • Public Hearing of the 2022-2024 Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)
  • Public Hearing and Presentation of the Tentative Annual Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023
  • Schematic Design Drawings, Budget and Schedule for the Peninsula High School Beautification Project

SMUHSD Student Artists Featured in County Office Art Collection

The Art on the Walls Gallery Opening is next Thursday, June 16 from 3 - 5 p.m. at the San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) in Redwood Shores!

The Gallery Opening showcases student art that was entered in SMCOE's Art on the Walls project. All pieces are centered around the theme of “student voice” and will be part of a semi-permanent art collection at the county office.

More than 30 SMUHSD students will have artwork in the gallery!

Mills Student Lucas Du interviewed by Bay Area News

Mills High School Student Lucas Du was recently interviewed by ABC 7 Bay Area News.


Additionally, Lucas will be at Congresswoman Jackie Speier's June 18 Town Hall: Coming Together - Stop AAPI Hate. Joining Congresswoman Speier will be the founder of Stop AAPI Hate, Dr. Russell Jeung, who is a professor at San Francisco State University’s Asian American Studies Department. The Stop AAPI Hate project tracks Covid-19 related discrimination in order to develop community resources and policy interventions to fight racism.

Lizzy Wan took third place for her article: "Asian Americans feel the pressure of high expectations"

Elise Spenner received Honorable Mention for her article: "Peninsula High School: A Lego Built School" and for her opinion piece: “Schools and Statues. Why not Streets?"

Jackson Spenner received Honorable Mention for his article on "Inside the mind of Emily Beach, congressional candidate for California's #14th District"

Mills Girls Doubles Badminton Team Wins CCS Championship

The Mills High Badminton Girls Double Team of Kalea Sheung and Charlotte Tse won the CCS Badminton Championship on May 14. The pair beat Lynbrook with a score of 21-7, 22-6. View the 2022 Girls Doubles Bracket.

School’s Peace Pantry Emergency Food Drive offers weekly groceries
Via the San Mateo Daily Journal: "Hillsdale High School recently celebrated the second year of volunteer efforts to offer and deliver free weekly groceries to 140 student families in need through the Hillsdale Peace Pantry Emergency Food Drive Through.

“Peace Pantry really empowers us as educators and volunteers to feel like we can do something for our students,” said Rachel Lauderdale, a volunteer and teacher at Hillsdale High School.""

Aragon Choirs Recognized at Festival
Aragon's Girls, Boys and Chamber Choirs all participated in the CMEA Bay Section Choral C Festival held May 13-14 and received a Unanimous Superior Rating, which is the highest rating possible.
